Are republicans freaking out over John Glenn's "Hitler" comment?
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-0409040123sep04,1,5918659.story?coll=chi-news-hed

Former Sen. John Glenn of Ohio, campaigning with Kerry in the town about 25 miles east of Columbus, urged voters "to separate out fact from fiction." He accused Republicans of making false claims against Kerry and engaging in the kind of propaganda once employed by the Third Reich in Nazi Germany.

"That makes this a very, very tough fight because too often, too often in this country, if you hear something repeated, it's the old Hitler business," Glenn said. "If you hear something repeated, repeated, repeated, repeated, you start to believe it."

He was a veteran of WWII right?

My grandfather who is a WWII vet says the same thing about Bush; reminds him of Hitler.

19. Yep, both WWII and Korea...
And he was a fighter pilot in serious combat both times. I remember a picture in LIFE magazine years ago showing him standing next to his F86 Sabrejet in Korea with a BIG shellhole under the wing. He was grinning, of course... there's a guy with the RIGHT STUFF!

13. Its just a matter of degree. Bush is not as smart or competant
as Hitler was. Nor was he decorated with the Iron Cross second class for courage under fire. For that matter Stalin was smarter and more competant than Bush.
He would be as evil as they were if given the opportunity - espccially since God speaks to him directly.

I am coming to equate bush supporters with Brown Shirts however.

If I were him, and had the knowledge that my own government was considering blowing me up in a rocket to justify the invasion of Cuba, I think I would be inclined to think of them as Nazis.

21. Karl Rove was the first person to compare Bush to Hitler.
Of course, Rove did it in a complimentary and admiring way.

I love pointing this out to Brown Shirts for Bush when they claim that comparing Bush to Hitler is irrational. I always emphasize that if anyone would know whether Bush was similar to Hitler it would be Rove.

It really annoys me that democrats never mention this on television.

26. The only link I have handy is from Drudge, but here it is.
Drudge excerpting from Woodward's book "Bush At War:

ROVE THOUGHT POST-9/11 WORLD SERIES GAME LIKE NAZI RALLY

"The president emerged wearing a New York Fire Department windbreaker. He raised his arm and gave a thumbs-up to the crowd on the third base side of the field. Probably 15,000 fans threw their arms in the air imitating the motion.

He then threw a strike from the rubber, and the stadium erupted. Watching from owner George Steinbrenner’s box, Karl Rove thought, It’s like being at a Nazi rally." (p. 277)

28. Karl Rove, the strategist for Bush, admires Hitler's tactics.
Now we know what I have suspected for some time. I'm glad that John Glenn pointed it out. As a national hero, people cannot just dismiss what he has to say. I only hope enough folks wake up to what is going on before election day. If Bush manages to stay in office, we may never have another chance to rid ourselves of these Fascists! Truly, this could be America's last free election.

34. The Hitler comparison is..
true. I took many German WWII history classes in college, and I've thought the same thing about BUsh for some time now.

I would love to read a comparison by a good scholar of Nazi propoganda.

Even right now, I see Bush using one of Hitler's greatest tactics. People didn't really like him or support his policies, but they felt a sense of inevitability which lulled them into complacency and hopelessness. They just gave up fighting and accepted him.

I see shades of that happening right now. Look at the strong reaction to these most recent polls. Look at the number of threads started recently (it doesn't matter if they are plants or genuine) declaring Bush the victor, the conclusion foregone.

35. Hermes-Press: Nazification of America
The folk who run Hermes-Press seem smarter than the average puke -- lot smarter than me, too, come to think of it. Like you and many DUers, today's parallels to NAZI times cannot be ignored.

Nazification of America

Phase 1: Hitler appointed Chancellor. Bush appointed Resident.

Phase 2: An atrocity to subdue the people. Reichstag fire and WTC/Pentagon attacks.

Phase 3: The leader destroys elections and appoints himself dictator.

SOURCE:

http://www.hermes-press.com/nazification_step3.htm

There's a lot of info and plenty o' links for the readers amongst us.

Gee. Sounds like we're in some kind of hot water.
