ACORN
snip/

investigating voter fraud has become a Republican cottage industry over the last 20 years because it justifies questioning the eligibility of thousands of would-be voters -- often targeting poor and minority citizens in urban areas that lean Democratic. Playing the role of vigilant watchdog gives GOP bureaucrats a pretext for obstructing the path of marginalized and first-time voters headed for the polls.

1. The only story in this non-story is that ACORN IS policing itself!
It IS FOLLOWING THE RULES -- by making sure that all
voter registrations that are submitted by its volunteers
ARE LEGITIMATE. Mary Poppins, Mickey Mouse and co. are
ENDING UP IN THE TRASH, where they belong ... The fact
that these fraudulent registrations were set aside in
the first place SHOWS ACORN IS PLAYING BY THE RULES!

:argh:

2. It would not surprise me...
to find out that most of these fraudulent registrations came from right wing infiltrators planted to make the organization look bad and create controversy

6. I agree 100%! ACORN knew full well that Mickey Mouse wasn't going to show up to vote.
why would they encourage bogus registrations that would just end up in the trash heap, or that no one could possibly use on election day because those people don't exist? How does that help anyone get elected?

For all the complaining the right does about bogus registrations and "dead people" voting, they never bother to explain how a dead person can actually show up to a polling place, show their photo-id, and vote. It's impossible.

3. Congress should make voting a basic right .. all citizens should be allowed to vote
that will fuck the republicans up for good.

5. I think ReThugs do this for two reasons: 1) challenge Dem. voters, 2) create LONG LINES
for them it's a twofer. This business of aggressive challenging of individual voters, hoping to get some thrown out, also
slows down the whole process for the average voter on election day, creates needlessly long lines of people waiting to vote
and many -- esp. those who actually WORK for a living and need to get back to their jobs, or pick up the kids from school, etc.

It's absolutely sickening and disgusting that this kind of voter intimidation seems to be getting a free pass by election
officials and the M$M.

7. Don't forget 2004
When the repukes controlled the allocation of voting machines shorting the Democratic precincts to create long line and repress the vote. It basically gave Butcher the election
