I hate the attempt to create equivalency. The claim internet rumors about banning books and Palin being an AIP member are false.
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/15/internet.rumors/index.htmlThe thing is, as we all know here, the Palin stuff is very close to the truth. Maybe there wasn't a list of 70 books Palin wanted banned, but her church was in the process of trying to get a couple of specific books banned when she took office, she did ask the librarian three times about how she would handle a request to ban a book, she did fire her, and she did have to reinstate her due to public backlash.
Likewise, it may not be possible to prove that she was ever a card-carrying AIP member, but she did attend at least three conventions, she did send them a greeting while a sitting governor, her husband was a member for seven years, she does have several other close ties to AIP members, and the AIP does have a stated goal to infiltrate the political system by running as Republicans (and they are on tape saying she was a member and that she was the candidate they wanted in office).
