John McCain and Barack Obama somehow ended up at the same barber shop. As they sat there, each being worked on by a different barber, not a word was spoken. The barbers were both afraid to start a conversation, for fear it would turn to politics. As the barbers finished their shaves, the one who had McCain in his chair reached for the after shave, McCain was quick to stop him saying, "No thanks, my wife Cindy will smell that and think I've been in a whorehouse". The second barber turned to Barack and said 'how about you? Obama replied, "Go ahead, my wife Michelle doesn't know what the inside of a whorehouse smells like."

The implication is that McCain in the story is suggesting he cheats on his wife and knows how to get away with it, while Obama turns it around to suggest McCain's wife cheats on him. Classic insult humor -- you could probably find something like it in Boccaccio or Chaucer.

It's a cheap shot, but it's not sexist, isn't actually implying anything about Cindy McCain -- and it's funny because it perfectly conveys both McCain's own self-congratulatory preening combined with a guilty conscience and Obama's total self-assurance and faith in both himself and his wife.
