1. He implied that he'll ask followup-questions, which is good.
I don't want to listen to McCain and Obama just repeat what they said in their previous two debates.

2. I am thinking he will do the best job so far.
I like Bob Schieffer. He seems to me like he tries to be truly neutral. I also think he has been around long enough not to be scared to put BOTH candidates on the spot a little bit. I think that will work in Obama's favor. He thinks faster on his feet.

3. Can't stand him
He plays the role of kindly old grandpa while favoring the other side. Why can't Bill Moyers moderate a debate?

6. I have heard Schieffer report some pretty negative stuff about McCain. I don't think he is 'in the
tank' for McCain at all.

15. Please read the rest of the posts
he may not be "in the tank" but he certainly has friends on the other side.

9. That's my thought also.
The only good thing about Brokaw's moderation was that it gave Chris Parnell a chance to parody him again.

7. I did hear him brag once about being a "close personal friend" of McCain
and that they visit each other's houses and talk on the phone.(on Charley Rose maybe?)

But I think he'll be professional tonight

10. I think this kind of conflict of interest should automatically disqualify potential moderators.
But I agree with you that he'll be professional.

8. i think his reaction to Wesley Clark disqualified him, IMO
back when General Clark was smacking down the whole war hero meme- he's not entirely unbiased-

However, they could let Hannity and Rush moderate at this point, and it wouldn't make a bit of difference

12. He use to play golf and go to ball games with Bush
But just remember who Bob Schieffer is when you hear these prophets chant their mantra. Bob Schieffer comes from Texas, and he tends to root for pols from that part of the country. And, according to what he told Larry King, he isn’t too high on those “northeastern” swells. More remarkably, he’s a long-time personal friend of George Bush—and Bush will be one of the evening’s two candidates! Indeed, Schieffer used to play golf with Bush. He used to go to ball games with Bush. The two men even went to spring training together, according to Howard Kurtz’s well-ignored profile! And Schieffer’s brother, Tom Schieffer, is a long-time, close business associate of Bush. Indeed, after Bush found his way to to the White House, Tom Schieffer slept in the Lincoln Bedroom! Today he serves as U.S. ambassador to Australia. Family friend Bush sent him there.

We’ll be surprised if Bob Schieffer, who is generally professional, betrays a real bias at tonight’s debate. But if Bob Schieffer betrays a bias, do you really think it will be of the liberal variety? But let this evening’s slightly odd event instruct you about our odd, crackpot discourse. The moderator of tonight’s debate is a long-time, close friend of one of the candidates. But guess what? Press and pundits aren’t telling you that. But somewhere, some pundit will watch the session, and he’ll run and proclaim it: Liberal bias!! If George Will provided the liberal bias last week, why can’t Bush’s friend do so too?

13. Oh, you mean Bob "My Best Friend is Poppy Bush" Schieffer?
He has his moments where he seems like a decent guy, but don't be fooled. This is McCain's last chance to score some points and Schieffer can make it happen. I'm sure the GOP puppet masters have made the call to him in advance.

14. Yuck.
He was the jerk who framed the question to Gen. Wes Clark regarding "a man who gets shot down isn't fit to be president" (paraphrased) and then was AGHAST when Clark agreed.

He's a smarmy meme merchant.
