Hagel's wife to attend debate as guest of Michelle Obama

WASHINGTON — Lilibet Hagel, wife of Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., will get a prime seat for tonight's presidential debate in New York between Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain.

The Nebraska senator's wife will sit next to Obama's wife, Michelle, as her guest.

Lilibet Hagel publicly endorsed Obama last week. She has said he is the best one to get the country back on track after the "disastrous" policies of the Bush administration.

Chuck Hagel has said he has no plans to endorse a candidate in the race. He will be in Japan during the debate, meeting with government officials and American business leaders.
