Whoopsies! McCain walks squarely into the premiere for the W movie in NYC!
http://www.politico.com/blogs/jonathanmartin/

My colleague Lisa Lerer sends over this only-in-New-York dispatch:

When McCain left the Hilton hotel in midtown this evening, he practically walked into the red-carpet premiere of Oliver Stone’s new movie, “W.”

According to early reviews, the movie paints an unflattering picture of the current administration – one McCain is trying to move as far away from as possible.

But there was no escaping this timing: The McCain motorcade was lined up right next to fans holding signs with the slogan: “W. A life misunderestimated.”

Awkward!

5. Called the "Overrated
Pow"..Rolling Stone Mag alread has a synopsis called "The Make Believe Maverick"("A Closer Look at McCain's life and career reveals a record of recklessness and dishonesty") in the current issue.

7. Rolling Stone article is good.
Jann Wenner has obviously made it a mandate that every issue of RS has an anti-Repug/Dubya article. Since 2004. And there's been some great articles (I like Matt Taibbi).

Mccain claims he is going to confront Obama on Ayers...oh dear...

Thursday McCain is supposed to show up at the Letterman show....not sure what's in store for Friday but I am sure it won't be dissappointing.

4. If I had been in McCain's shoes,
I would have played it off, got in the line, pretended to have been invited and go watch the film.

So it would have pissed off the base, who cares.
Maybe it would have actually made it more palatable that I was trying to distance myself from W.

6. I heard it was actually a pretty even handed treatment of Dubya
Which I guess really would be "an unflattering picture." But Stone's getting marks for fairness. At least from sane people.

9. I thought his Nixon movie was more than fair to the man
I don't really know how accurate it is, but it portrayed Nixon as a deeply troubled soul who actually had good intentions, but ultimately was undone by his own insecurities.

13. That's an accurate summary

Although Nixon did a lot of good things - establishing diplomatic relations with China, strategic arms limitation talks with Russia, shuttle diplomacy in the mid-east that laid the groundwork for Camp David... he was not an unalloyed disaster like W - not by a long stretch.

11. I have to see this movie out of curiousity alone
The trailers make it seem totally farcical but then, GWB is a farce so I suppose it may well be "fair and balanced".
