Some people are nuts: Baby named Sarah McCain Palin
link

A new father has secretly named his baby girl Sarah McCain Palin after the Republican ticket for president and vice president.

Mark Ciptak of Elizabethton put that name on the documents for the girl's birth certificate, ignoring the name Ava Grace, which he and his wife had picked earlier.

"I don't think she believes me yet," he told the Kingsport Times-News for a story to be published Tuesday. "It's going to take some more convincing."

Ciptak, a blood bank employee for the American Red Cross, said he named his third child after John McCain and Sarah Palin to "to get the word out" about the campaign.

"I took one for the cause," he said. "I can't give a lot of financial support for the (McCain/Palin) campaign. I do have a sign up in my yard, but I can do very little."

1. First of all, his wife is going to leave him.
Second, if he succeeds, his daughter will change her name as soon as she is old enough to do so.

14. Plus, this incident alone should be enough for her to be granted sole (not joint) custody. nt

3. My mother always INSISTS that she once read a birth announcement
for a baby whose first and middle names were Sputnik Eisenhower.

Now that's a weird name!

I feel sorry for little Sarah, though the name Sarah itself isn't bad.

4. One day, he'll have to explain to his daughter
that he named her after the people who lost the 2008 presidential election.

How sad.

...b.m., I'm going to name it "Sarah McCain Palin".

If there's a second one, I'll name it "Tawd"!

And any floaters, I'll call "Leiberman"!

6. What an asshole. Way to respect your wife there.
"Took one for the cause", my ass. Unless he happened to carry and deliver the child.

7. What a fucking bastard.
And it doesn't have anything to do with WHAT the kid's name is (though she'll probably be teased about it for the rest of her life). Only a true asshole would, without consulting the mother of his child, change the baby's agreed-upon name while his wife was recovering from childbirth.

8. He didn't take "one for the cause," his innocent little daughter did.
I hope her mother goes to court and legally changes it. And maybe changes her own so she won't be associated with that idiot husband any more than she has to.

32. That baby is going to grow up with that name & She'll have to live with it, I pray the mother will
have some sense and have that name changed legally. How the hell could the father unilaterally change the name through the hospital? I didn't think father's could do that? I know mother's can, but not fathers, at least when I had mine...

That's just despicable, that poor baby, I can only imagine having to grow up with that name :(

34. The Records Clerk came to the room the day before we were discharged to make
sure the name was correct for filing for a SSN. Maybe that idiot will come to his senses by then, or a family member will have a "Come to Jesus" chat with him.

13. At least it's easily undone.
Most states give parents the right to change a child's name freely up to a certain age.

Seriously.

So if and when this guy comes to his senses then it can be fixed.

He sacrificed his daughter's beautiful name for it.

That poor, poor child.

Mark Ciptak is a douchebag of the highest order.

18. What else would he do without consulting with wife first? IMO, this is a huge red flag
If she's smart, she'll start drawing up the divorce paperwork right after submitting the paperwork to get her daughter's name changed. What a selfish, inconsiderate STUPID bastard.

33. How can he even do that with the birth certificate?
In my experience, the person who gives birth must sign the birth certificate paperwork! I'm pretty sure this guy wasn't the one who gave birth to his daughter.

24. Ah Elizabethton. The last bastion of truly backwards thinking in this state
I live within a short drive to that town, and let me just tell you that this type of idiocy is the norm. They might as well adorn the county line and city limits with Klan regalia and erect a giant statue of Ronald Reagan as their god. Plus, this guy is a well known rabid Right-Winger in this area and that's not a small feat to accomplish when you're surrounded by so many just like him.

This is a shameless attempt at trying to get some publicity for himself. I'm sure he's looking forward to all of the media slobbering that's going to go on about himself, but what he did to his kid is beyond shameful. I only hope his wife leaves him and takes the birth certificate with her.

They'll be able to pinpoint her like you could if you met someone named Ross Perot Stockdale.

28. Sounds like Mrs. Ciptak hasn't bought into the greatness of the GOP ticket.
Personally, I would beat the brakes off my husband if he pulled a stunt like that. I'm not even married to this buffoon and I'm seeing red! Sounds like Mark is one of those people you have to watch VERY carefully; even if you catch them doing something wrong, they'd rationalize (or flat out deny) the charge until the day they die. No wonder he supports McCain/Palin.

We had a baby in our town named, Mavrick John. And they spelled it "Mavrick" not "Maverick". I hope they call the baby Ricky, not Mav.

31. And I used to think that the grand old midwestern trailer trash tradition
of naming babies after popular artists and songs was stupid. Being named after political tickets is way worse than being named for a one-hit-wonder.

Fucking insane! :eyes: If I were the wife, I'd give him a very big piece of my mind (which he evidentally needs, as he doesn't seem to have one of his own..)

Plus ,is it even legal to give the child a surname that's not the mother or the father's?
