Do you remember DU in November 2006?
I do. Everyone was ecstatic that the Democrats regained control of Congress. It took all of about a month to see backstabbing posts along the lines of "Fuck you, Nancy!!", "Impeach Nancy!", "Vote her out!!" when she announced that impeachment was off the table.

So, what are you going to do if/when Obama does not pursue any action against the Bush Admin.?

5. Well.. I'm gonna go to prodn200's marshmallow party, but.....
Instead of going completely nude as he suggests, I'm gonna use these instructions I found on the computer to make me something to wear:

17. Maybe, but you'll still have all those strings hanging around your neck
Technically speaking, that's not nude.

15. Pre-mature pardons?
Only a few have actually been charged with anything. THis is the one glimmer of hope that I have. Since they have not been charged, yet, they can't be pardoned.

Conviction after the war criminals are out of power would stick. IF someone found the backbone, a new ambitious AG, maybe.

4. Obama will not pursue any meaningful action against the Bush gang.
People like that will always get away it. If you're that high up the food chain in this world you will escape punishment. * will be in Paraguay. Cheney will be in Dubai.

There are one or two pressing issues that will amply fill the time of his administration for the foreseeable future...

9. Obama is not running on a "justice" platform...the fucking dems mentioned above did...
that was their MAIN "selling point" - and they sold us out, so yeah, we're naturally PISSED at them for DOING NOTHING and NOT holding to their pledges during the campaign...

BIG difference...

10. I would posit that Nancy held the knife first.
You don't run on ending the war and then do practically nothing to end it. If one wants to make the "not enough votes" argument than she should have been aware of that very likely possibility beforehand and not tried to convince everyone the Dems would be able to do anything.

As for Obama, I'm planning on holding his feet to the fire on Jan 21, 2009 on many issues. Getting him elected is just step one. The work doesn't end there.

12. Do you remember DU in the summer of '69?
I do. I got my first real six-string. Bought it at the five and dime. Played it 'till my fingers bled. It was the summer of '69.

14. Well, I'll be considerably more tolerant of Obama not doing anything ...
... since it was actually the responsibility of Congress, at the time, and we're going to have a lot of other things to fix, going forward.

I hope he does work to uncovering and rolling back the overreaches of the Bush Admin, but I'm not going to hold it against Obama if he doesn't -- 'cause he won't have done any less than McCain would have, nor, demonstrably, will he have done less than Congress.

So how about worrying about that if/when he actually gets into office.

16. I'm going to remember just what you wrote, because similar thoughts occurred to me.
This morning, I was asking myself--"In retrospect, did Pelosi deserve the criticism we all heaped upon her for not aggressively pursuing Bush's impeachment? How important, at the end of the day, was it for us to have something on the record about Bush's horrid Presidency being out of spec, so to speak?"

The only honest answer I can give on October 14, 2008, is "no."

And I'm inclined to think that if we do win, and an Obama administration does not pursue criminal prosecutions against key Bush Administration officials, that we ought to keep exactly those same end-game considerations in mind before we blast Barack.

Good post.
