What about a Republican type Bradley effect?
I haven't seen anything about this, but I was wondering if McCain could lose even bigger than expected because of a similar sentiment to the Bradley effect.

Look a lot of republicans I know, and this has been posted about by many bloggers, believe in things or support things or spout things simply to piss off liberals. They would never admit to liberals being right because it would make them look weak or worse yet let them be exposed as wrong and their political vision flawed.

With that in mind I can see a lot of people I know never admitting to anyone or to pollsters that they would vote for Obama. But a lot of these same people despite their stubbornness and proclivities aren't idiots. And especially on the economy they don't want to lose their jobs or their savings or their retirement. So I wonder just how many of these people will be saying that they support McCain and say that they will be voting for him but when it comes down to it know that it's in their best interest to pull the lever for Obama.

Not sure if this has been discussed, debunked, or whatever but I keep coming back to it especially when thinking about the conservatives I know.

1. It's been discussed many times--sort of a reverse Bradley effect.
People who don't want to admit to their racist friends that they would vote for "one of them" but when the moment comes and they are alone, will privately vote for Obama because they think he might get the country out of this mess.

2. Or what about age? Or Palin?
How many look at Old + Moosecrazy and think no way, but don't want to sound ageist or sexist?

There are a lot of ways it could break and only one, seemingly outdated standard the media talks about.

3. Yep. Imagine a pollster calling a Republican household

The wife is more likely to be an Obama supporter.. If she answers the phone, she is more likely to say she supports McCain, but that doesn't mean she'll vote for McCain in the privacy of the voting booth.

4. The Yeldarb effect
There was an article earlier about this, it's in this thread http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x7430642

5. Nobody discusses this probability...
What about a 'Reverse' Bradley Effect?

I've come across a lot of Republicans and Independents who reluctantly say that they support McSame. They are not strong supporters. Perhaps they have second thoughts? Perhaps they are too afraid to admit to their racist friends, family and colleagues that they really don't care for John McCain, but cannot tell them that they secretly like and support Obama? Perhaps they know that McCoward has been wrong on the economy and has supported Dumbya's criminal invasion of a sovereign nation. Perhaps after voting for Dumbya TWICE, they realize in their hearts that they were wrong and want to make things right. Perhaps when the dust settles and they enter that booth, they understand not only the ramifications of their vote on the economy and on world affairs; maybe they will also realize that they could be part of history. Perhaps, just perhaps, when they get in that booth, they will exercise critical thinking and sound judgement...perhaps they will pull the lever for Barack Hussein Obama. Just perhaps...

6. They need to stop pretending there aren't a measurable
amount of Republicans (male and female) that are never going to vote for a woman no matter of how much of batshit crazy fundie neocon she is.
