Get ready for the 'comeback' narrative
Drudge has it has top headline and, seeing as how Matt is the assignment desk for the rightwing media, you're going to hear it a lot this week. They'll probably spin Wednesday as a success if McCain finds his way to the podium and manages to not go off on some tangent babbling about Korean height disparities. And they'll try to show his warm and fuzzy side when he tries to make up with Letterman on thursday. It will be an all-out effort. How much of it do you think will seep its way into the supposedly objective media's coverage?

1. It doesn't matter that much now. It's 3 weeks to go. Most people have made up their minds.
Obama's starting to have consistently over 50 percent in most tracking polls. There isn't much of anyone left McCain can pick up at this point. Things could change, true, but. Media narratives shifting can't have too much effect at this point.

3. Yes. The magic number is 50+, not a gap of 10 percentage points.

4. The meme only works if the polls get close.... they're not and they won't.

5. Come back to what? ONLY eight points behind? lol
Yeah, he's a real "comeback kid". I've had Drudge on ignore since he used to post his crap to Usenet back in the late 80s and 90s.

6. Letterman is very good with the rope-a-dope, himself. All McCain will show there is his smart-arse
side. "Warm and fuzzy" doesn't play well on Letterman.

7. Monday's ABC News/WaPo poll steps all over that narrative, though.

8. I just posted something similar...
with the daily tracking polls getting a little tighter this of course will be the MSM theme of the day (the MSM will ignore the ABC poll of course).

10. Too late, the ABC/WaPo poll screwed that narrative all to hell and back.
Obama is ten points ahead and at 53%. McCain is down for the count and he's rebooting his campaign.

12. But can McCain have it both ways?
Getting traction with a "comeback" meme without admitting that he's losing badly?
