http://mudflats.wordpress.com/2008/10/10/sarah-palin-and-her-juneau-neighbors-support-obama/

An anonymous Mudflatter in Juneau was taking an evening walk past the Governor’s mansion, found the following political sign in the yard, and sent it to Mudflats for all to enjoy!

We sure as hell did. Do you know how much of a pain it is to put those things up in-season... and then take them down again, also in-season? In ALASKA?

Yeah, they leave them there. Most Alaskans have enough class to not leave them ON out of season, though.

And released a picture taken from a security camera.

Texas Governor's Mansion fire probe turns to Austin men arrested at Republican convention

06:07 PM CDT on Wednesday, September 10, 2008

By EMILY RAMSHAW / The Dallas Morning News
eramshaw@dallasnews.com

AUSTIN – Two protesters accused of taking explosive devices to Minnesota to disrupt the Republican National Convention are being investigated for possible links to this summer's still unsolved blaze at the Texas Governor's Mansion.

Department of Public Safety officials won't say whether the men – 22-year-old David McKay and 23-year-old Bradley Crowder – are suspects in the June 8 arson, which gutted the governor's mansion. But a high-ranking state law enforcement official said Wednesday that the men, who remain in custody in Minnesota and stand accused of manufacturing Molotov cocktails for use at last week's convention, are under investigation in Texas.

Texas officials have video surveillance of a young man lighting a Molotov cocktail and using it to set the governor's mansion on fire. The official, who spoke only on condition of anonymity because the probe is ongoing, said there were "enough similar characteristics in the two cases to justify a review."

Minnesota attorney Jeff Degree said he hasn't heard of any Texas investigators meeting with Mr. McKay, his client, and that they haven't spoken about the governor's mansion case. When asked whether Mr. McKay admitted to producing Molotov cocktails for the Republican convention, Mr. Degree declined to answer.

...however, when I was attending college a few blocks from there (and at a time when the governor was Marvin Mandel -- who wound up going to prison for corruption -- and his predecessor was Spiro Agnew), we many times considered sneaking over the fence one night and planting a "For Sale" sign in the yard.

I was born in Brooklyn and raised in Queens and I never got off the highway at Albany to even see the state buildings. Then I moved to Colorado and working for state social services I worked a block from the capitol and toured it several times. I think I missed out seeing the great old buildings in upstate NY.

Wiki sez:

"The governor is not expected to actually reside in the mansion itself. Rather, a 7-room private apartment is provided for the governor and his family behind the mansion. Current Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich does not live in the Executive Mansion, instead choosing to remain in his private home in Chicago<2>, citing his wife and 7 year old daughter as reasons for staying."

104. Interesting. The people I know--real, live Illinoisans-- DO expect the governor to actually reside
in the GOVERNOR'S MANSION. If he wants to stay in Chicago, he should have run for some office in Chicago. Imagine how much better things would be if that had happened..for the state, the party, the people of Illinois.

64. Does it overlook the Susquehanna River?
I'll be stuck in exciting Chambersburg for Christmas -- Harrisburg might be a welcome day trip for a mansion tour and nice dinner out.

79. I'm not sure if it overlooks the river or not.
But a mansion tour sounds nice, especially for the holidays.

Who knew.

California’s executive mansion, popularly known at the Governor’s Mansion, was built in 1877 for Albert and Clemenza Gallatin. Albert was a partner in the Sacramento hardware store of Huntington & Hopkins. The State of California purchased the house from Joseph and Louisa Steffens to use as a home for California’s first families in 1903 for $32,500. Victorian architecture was somewhat out of style by then, but the house was suitably impressive, conveniently located, and comfortable.

over the weekend with approximately 300 people. That's a pretty good turnout for a city of 30,000 residents.
