"If you don't elect George Bush, your gonna die" ~ Craig Crawford
Edited on Fri Sep-03-04 11:32 PM by mzmolly
That was the message at the R convention according to Craig Crawford MSNBC Political Analyst.

Who gives a shit about jobs/healthcare if your already dead folks.

I hope we hit Bush hard on this issue:

Any ideas for talking points ~ ads ?

As I've said, I like the idea of a "smoke and mirrors" theme, stating how Bush says one thing and does another. I think if we can get a consistant theme, meme and plug away at it we can turn this around quickly.

1. If you do elect George Bush, you're going to die.
See, that's how it works for carbon based life-forms.

You certainly seem to lack the ability to argue.

She always has to point out that she doesn't hate him personally, and he's a decent human being, etc... She didn't use to do that.

Use a magician pull a truth out of his hat and smoke covers is(a bit late)
Another truth and the cape covers it
You see the point.

10. Bush's decisions have already killed thousands
Edited on Fri Sep-03-04 11:35 PM by xray s
Bush ignored written warnings that bin laden was going to attack and went on vacation. 3000 people died in NYC because of that decision.

Bush ignored warnings by his generals that he was not putting enough troops in Iraq and 1000 American soldiers and tens of thousands of civilians have died because of that decision.

11. Hit Bush with his own stupid words
There should be an ad run every 15 minutes in every swing state with the footage of Bush saying:

"I truly am not that concerned about him."

(referring to Osama)

Then run a huge picture of Osama with his AK47, then a black and white scroll that reads:

George Bush isn't concerned about Osama Bin Laden. Are You?

Let 'em choke on that one every day until the election.

12. "smoke and mirrors" theme is a good one
People sense that shrub is untrustworthy, but the media have hidden so many of his lies, it's hard for people to see the truth.

Kerry could run an ad campaign simply showing all the shrub lies. It would be good.

He comes off as the erudite "Congressional Quarterly" pundit but he always ends up pulling some Bill Schneider or Frank Luntz routine as if he's another media mole of the RNC.

Like Bill Schneider, he can be mostly fair - while very blatantly anti-Dem at certain times.

I always remember the one time I saw Craig Crawford when he compared the nine Democratic nominees to "The Sixth Sense" -- he ACTUALLY used the phrase "I see dead people".

This is the friggin' NBC political analyst, basically saying that all the Democratic nominees at the time were "dead" on delivery. (Even worse was the fact that they, clearly, weren't).

19. Kerry has to hammer on lies and incompetence and the fact that
terror is UP in the world...and Iraq is now a breeding ground and has been infiltrated with terrorist groups.

Is it that hard to eviscerate Bush??

28. Yep, repetition and coordination
EVERYONE has to stick to the message. At this point, Kerry doesn't seem to have settled on any particular message, and not enough big-name Dems seem to be making TV appearances for Kerry.

Could you believe those signs at the thug convention? "A Safer World" Come On!! What world are you talking about?? Statistics are absolutely clear - TERRORISM IS UP since Bush took office. Period.

To borrow an old line from Al Gore - everything that ought to be up is down and everything that ought to be down is up!

That's the only surprise here.

Slogans:

"George, where's our money?"

"George W Bush: robbing America to give to Halliburton."

*Kerry could also stop disavowing his best points, and start using some of Bush's worst clips in his ads.

Edited on Fri Sep-03-04 11:56 PM by librechik
are they going to throw spitballs at us with RC model airplanes?

Bush has been crying wolf with expensive orange alerts every time his poll numbers go down. Our first responders are exhausted and he takes their funding to pay out a huge tax break for the rich.

We need a SENSIBLE Policy on terror not a panic attack!!!

I agree we need to be sensible, but most Americans are dumbed down and don't realize their being scammed.

I hope Kerry can show them that.

32. And that type stuff is being passed on the web forums too.
It is part of their talking points repertoire in various ways, some just imply that God will kill you if you vote for Kerry.

First of all a bigger group of us libs actually on the message boards will always help. Then laughing at the nutso's who imply that God will take out a contract against you if you don't vote W. If they get a chance to gang up on you, you can still do it, but it you will get dragged into an alternative universe where it is insisted by them all that it is really true. Still the fight is worth the effort because most of those uncommitted that stumble upon the record of the conversation will see the righties as delusional, as long as the right wingers are answered and fought. If Americans see nothing but the right wing arguments on the boards then that becomes reality. We have enough of that already.

For more rational freepers who think (or say) that Bush would protect us better, ask them why was Bush such a miserable failure at leading the armed forces at Tora Bora?

When they had Bin Laden and the heart of al Qaeda surrounded at Tora Bora, they chose to send in poor, under-equipped Afghan tribesmen to attempt the most important military operation possibly in the last 50 years and the next 50 years.

Read about that at: http://www.members.aol.com/nourbtwtmi2/reports/sotarc2.htm#tbca. That is a report from disinterested (I assume) military professional.

Another important point: A former Bush White House insider says that the reason that the Bush administration (George Bush is Commander in Chief of the military remember) did not want to risk American troops' lives was that too many body bags coming home from Afghanistan would have made going into Iraq too unpopular. (Richard A. Clarke on The O'Franken Factor last April.

The way Clarke describes in Against All Enemies about how Bush basically blew the whole Afghan campaign is priceless.

Remind people that since the end of the Afghan war the peace has been managed so badly that the Taliban has been capturing more and more areas, Karzai, the supposed leader of the whole nation is called "The Mayor of Kabul. The Afghan poppy crop has flourished and is funding terrorism world wide. (http://www.csmonitor.com/2002/0422/p11s01-coop.html?related)
Clarke has other ways Bush blew the war on terror to oin his book "Against All Enemies" Read that and you'll get some pretty good talking points about how Bush has blown protecting us from terrorists.
