I just heard Keith Obermann out because of strep throat
Said by bob costa on NBC sports before Patriots/Chargers game. Apologies if this is old news, I know people were concerned when he was out the end of last week.

Just had my tonsils out this year after a four month battle with on again/off again strep. Best decision I ever made. Strep throat is pure misery.

6. Had our son's out FINALLY when he was 13
he had strep when he was 8 months old. Then 4 times a year forever until we changed pediatricians (long story there)

ANYWAY, that was was 15 years ago, he has not had strep since. His surgeon thought if he coughed real hard, they would have come out anyway, they were THAT bad.

Again, no strep since they came out 15 years ago.

7. You can still get strep throat without tonsils, as Keith apparently has.
Keith has mentioned having had his tonsils removed back when he was 6 years old.

9. Well, I'll take it once or twice every few years
As opposed to five or six times a year. :)

10. Oh, poor guy. That is so miserable. There really is so little
outside of antibiotics that ever worked for me to soothe a strep sore throat. It's just so THICK and really hard to swallow. It's not just that it HURTS, it's almost impossible TO swallow.
Ish. Haven't had strep since I was 19, but I used to get it almost every year.

You have my sympathies, Keith! Feel better soon!

11. You need antibiotics for strep, because it's bacterial.
And the last time I had it, I nearly asphyxiated because my uvula was so swollen I could barely breathe. But that was in '94 and I haven't had it since. And I still have my tonsils. Go figure!
