Albert Einstein weighs in for Obama/Biden. His definition of insanity ...
Insanity: "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

5. Nah. It's a math thing. Completely OT from what your post was actually about...
But still amusing for those who know (a) a little bit of math and (b) something else Einstein is famous for saying.

7. Actually that quote and its attribution are urban legends
Franklin? Einstein? Rita Mae Brown?

The only actual documented attribution is:

Rita Mae Brown: http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Rita_Mae_Brown
Sourced
Insanity is doing the same thing, over and over again, but expecting different results.
Sudden Death, Bantam Books, New York, 1983, p. 68.
(Note: This same quote has also been variously attributed to Benjamin Franklin, Albert Einstein and an old Chinese proverb)

8. I've also seen it attributed to Georges Santayana
Possibly because he said something very similar:

Fanaticism consists in redoubling your effort when you have forgotten your aim.

From the Introduction to Life of Reason, Vol. 1, 1905

9. That at least makes sense.
The insanity definition doesn't. First, repeated operations in many cases do produce different results. Ask anyone involved in software/hardware system testing, for example. Second, it *might* qualify as an example of Obsessive/Compulsive Behavior, but it is hardly a general definition of insanity.
