When was the last time a candidate came from this far behind?
I was browsing the McCain facebook forums and they all keep saying that in 2004 W came from behind and won so they arent worrying. But I clearly dont remember 2004 that way, I remember Kerry either being tied or just behind Bush up until the election. I remember that week before election day just praying that Kerry would do something to make it. But he never did. Are they in denial or am I? Cause I really dont remember Bush being that far behind in 2004.

1. This is revisionist history.

It was fairly close at this point, both in terms of popular and electoral votes. Bush was behind a little after the debates, but as you can see, it was always about a few key state victories that never materialized. Winning 300 EV was never even discussed as a possibility for Kerry.

4. Yes, the electoral-vote website polling averages for John Kerry at this point,
...were similar to the Election Day results.

Kerry and Bush each won the states where they were ahead on that website on Oct. 12, 2004, with a few exceptions.

2. Reagan, 1980, and those people saying bush was behind
in 2004 are fucking deluded fucktards- not to put too fine a point on it. Bush led all of October, but for a a handful of days in the aggregate polling.

5. W was up 4-8% in national polls at this time
W never trailed in key swing states past September.

W had a 2-3:1 cash advantage throughout the election season. This year it's the reverse.

Kerry lacked significant voter turnout operations in most battleground states; Obama has, acording to many, the most organized turnout operation many observers have ever seen.

Kerry was never competitive in any more than a few swing states, and had to play a defensive campaign to retain Gore states, many of which he lost (NH, IA, NM); Obama has McCain on the run in former Bush states, including even hard-core red states like IN and WV.

Did W pull out of Michigan in early October?

They're trying to make themselves feel better. There really is no comparison between the ass whupping John McCain is currently experiencing and the rather tight, but advantage-incumbent election we saw in 2004.

10. Kerry had a good ground operation via "Act for Change."
George Soros spent something like $20 million on getting-out-the-vote for Kerry.

8. Bush's "Come-From-Behind" Win Was the Preliminary Exit Polls Compared to the "Corrected" Ones
That is the kind of "come-from-behind" win that McAin't is hoping for.

We call it stealing the election.
