2. This Is Unbelievable
(If) McCain was sincere in his regret about his personal attacks on Obama and pulls his "Ayers" ads I will feel sorry for him and not (personally) attack him....

33. He is not
I got an email from his campaign today(I have no idea why I am on his mailing list)
and this is what it said.
The Bill Ayers - Barack Obama Connection

Bill Ayers is an unrepentant domestic terrorist who helped found the Weather Underground. He and his organization were responsible for attacks on government buildings and public officials' families; their actions resulted in deaths and serious injuries to police officers and other innocent American citizens. Ayers eventually teamed up with Senator Barack Obama to work on educating our youth in Chicago.

Now, we are calling on Senator Obama to come clean to the American people about his ties with Bill Ayers, and explain when he first learned about Ayers' attack on the Pentagon and Ayers' other terrorist a ctivities.

THE FACTS

* Bill Ayers and the Weather Underground got their start in domestic terror by blowing up a police memorial statue -- what they called a "pig" statue -- in Chicago.

* The Weather Underground professed a hatred for American law. In 1970, they attempted to kill a New York State Supreme Court Justice and his family with a car-bomb.

* In 1995, Senator Obama launched his political career in the living room of Bill Ayers' Chicago home.

* Senator Obama published a rave review of Bill Ayers' book about juvenile justice in the Chicago Tribune. The book questioned the necessity of a prison system, compared America to South Africa's apartheid system, and dismissed the idea of the United States as a kind or just country.

* The Obama campaign has offered at least seven different stories about Senator Obama's relationship with Bill Ayers, including several different timelines about when Senator Obama learned of Bill Ayers' terrorist past.

* Senator Obama said a few days ago he thought Bill Ayers was "rehabilitated." However, on perhaps the most horrific day in our nation's history, September 11, 2001, Ayers said "I don't regret setting bombs... I feel we didn't do enough" to terrorize America.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Senator Obama's explanation of his relationship with Bill Ayers is a matter of trust. If Senator Obama cannot tell the truth about his long-time relationships with Bill Ayers and ACORN, how c an we trust him to be straightforward with the American people about his plan for the economy or our national security? We need a president with strong judgement and firm convictions. America cannot risk electing a president with poor judgment and blind ambition.

5. Moderate Republicans and Independents/Undecideds have stopped going to McPalin rallies.
Edited on Sun Oct-12-08 06:54 AM by SurferBoy
These are the level-headed ones that want to hear talk about the issues, not vile personal attacks.

So, those that are left are the lunatic right that are already voting for McPalin no matter what, that's why they really haven't gained any ground in the last several weeks.

6. I Get Vituperative On This Board...I Can't Deny It
My background is in political science...

But it's possible to be a good person with bad judgement or policies or vice versa...Why can't candidates just say about their opponent " I don't question your character. I question your judgement."

I'm much more measured in my remarks around RW independents and conservatives for fear of turning them off. That said, DU comments are pretty self-disciplined for an internet MB.

9. My Mom Passed Away Two Weeks Ago....I Am Trying To Be "Nice" To Everyone...
I still am a stalwart Democrat but I am trying not to hate anybody ;even Republicans...I choose to believe most of them are just misguided...Of course there are some who are racist, homophobic, xenophobic, etcetera....

I have a lot of Republican friends who have been unbelievably kind to me in my hour of need...We rarely discuss politics but when we do I am more bemused than angered....

I'm 34, and the prospect of loosing either of my parents, even at this age, makes me feel like an orphan. Nothing like death to recalibrate your perspective.

So sorry again...

7. Moderate republicans are abandoning the republican party
Check out this article and the readers comments:
http://www.dmagazine.com/ME2/dirmod.asp?nm=Core+Pages&type=gen&mod=Core+Pages&tier=3&gid=B33A5C6E2CF04C9596A3EF81822D9F8E

It is a conservative publication and the comments are 95% conservatives. A good 80% of them say they are voting for Obama because the GOP of today (Bush, Rove, McCain) has nothing to do with the GOP they grew up with... A real eye opener why this will be a landslide.

25. Thanks for that link... But here's my problem with these people
Barack Obama is not my ideal candidate for president. (In fact, I made the maximum donation to John McCain during the primaries, when there was still hope he might come to his senses.)

These elitist "conservatives" have been and continue to be hypocrites. For the past year, I have read a number of editorials from similar "conservative" pundits and commentators of the Buckley stripe and whenever they decide to, every once in awhile, "hold their noses" and write a critique of their party and movement, they ultimately come back around in their follow-up articles, having contracted sudden amnesia, and CONTINUE to support the purveyor of the very thing they whined about previously! Bush got in twice, not because Democrats voted for him, but because people like this guy did.

They are the epitome of the lockstep loonies.

For once it is time for them to put their $$$ where their mouthes are and vote for what they claim is their conscience. They need to quit voting because "they must support their party no matter what", otherwise don't bother critiquing. Put up or shut up! Hell, if there's a Democratic candidate who I don't agree with, I don't vote for that person (like Nutjob here in Philly).

27. Hey, the first comment is from Stephanie Miller's sister!
Check it out:

Your article endorsing Obama found its way to my computer, Wick... and I wanted you to know you have a VERY strong "thumbs up" from three folks you might least expect: my two sisters and me. We are the daughters of Bill Miller who ran for Vice President with Barry Goldwater back in '64. We have all morphed quite independently into feeling, as you do, that the Republican Party in general and George Bush in particular do not represent in any fashion what our dad stood for more than 40 years ago. In fact, we are all HUGE Obama Mamas! I live with my family in Salisbury, NC... my older sister Libby Miller Fitzgerald is in Lynchburg, VA... and our youngest sister Stephanie Miller is in LA where she has a nationally syndicated radio talk show and is seen regularly on Larry King and other TV shows. Thank you for your wise words. I hope there are enough others like you to put Obama over the top. Or we're headed overseas to live!

Mary Miller James

They only poll ~700 homes daily, vs. the far vaster samples of the WP/CNN/gallup/CBS surveys.

of time. As somebody said, add ten points to a Zogby poll.

30. I don't, particularly...
For most of the campaign cycle, they've been about +3 Democrats over the poll average.

I think they're "reliable" (in terms of tracking shifts one way or another), but I think you need to subtract 2-4 points from their margin to be accurate. In other words, I'd but the real race at "only" around +9 to +11 for Obama. ;-)

Edited on Sun Oct-12-08 11:43 AM by salinen
Hate, Bigotry, Homophobia, Fear, Intimidation, all great strategies for the G.O.P. and work like pouring liquid bananas into a pig trough. It only becomes pointless when all the fundy hate-evolved under cranial developed types are all on board, and the next segment to inspire are the independents or fence sitters.
