28. McCain was NOT born in the Canal Zone
Edited on Sat Oct-11-08 09:46 PM by jberryhill

He was born in a civilian hospital in Colon, Panama. He was not born on Coco Solo base, and he was not born in the Zone.

Colon was specifically EXCLUDED from the Canal Zone.

Now I'll have to go dig up the map that was posted before, showing the Canal Zone boundary.

37. Yes.
Well documented. His father was stationed there (Navy),so he is considered Native Born American; however, there seems to be some legal dispute about that.

US military bases are considered to be "US soil" with one notable exception, that being GITMO, ergo the rational for keeping enemy combatents there.

My question is: How can this be? Either all bases are US soil, or they're not. If they are, then GITMO is, without a doubt, illegal. If they're not, then John McCain is illegal. Either way, there seems to be a big problem.

48. He wasn't born on base

He was born in a civilian Panamanian hospital in Colon, which was NOT in the Panama Canal Zone.

It's not a "legal dispute" - he wasn't born in US territory, and he was born before the law was changed concerning children born to US citizens abroad.

There was a Senate Resolution that was introduced to retroactively cover this issue - sponsored by Obama and Clinton among others. It failed to pass.

What's really funny is that some of them will go on and on about needing to see Obama's "long form" birth certificate, but right on the short form, it says, "This copy serves as prima facie evidence of the fact of birth in any court proceeding."

That pretty much says it all!

23. This Philip J. Berg is a real character. He was fined and sanctioned $10,000 for "unethical actions"
Actually, the full quote is "a laundry list of unethical actions", but that wouldn't fit on the subject line.

"Other attorneys should look to Mr. Berg's actions as a blueprint for what not to do when attempting to effectively and honorably perform the duties of the legal profession," US District Court Judge J. Curtis Joyner wrote when he sanctioned him in 2005.

"This court has grown weary of Mr. Berg's continuous and brazen disrespect toward this court and his own clients. Mr. Berg's actions ... are an enormous waste of judicial time and resources that this court cannot, in good conscience, allow to go unpunished," Joyner wrote.

Joyner blasted Berg in 2005, calling his fraud claim then an "irresponsible decision" because the claim was "utterly barren of any scintilla of legal principles."

That's pretty harsh. Sounds like he's up to his old tricks.

More here: http://www.yestodemocracy.com/yes_to_democracy_no_to_pu/2008/08/wingnuts-away-.html

Also, his legal thinking on display in that video has holes big enough to walk a moose through. (And save it from Sarah Palin!)

I love that Mr. I'm-an-independent-filmmaker who introduces that video helpfully neglects to tell us any of the ethics charges against Berg, or provide any attempt to show balance. This is what I hate about the YouTube era -- mendacious schemers use YouTube to spread their lies to gullible people faster than the truth can get around.

38. haha.. I love DU. :-)
You never know who you're going to meet here.

This whole kerfuffle seems pretty cut and dry to me. The birth certificate Obama has presented states on its face that it is to be considered prima facie proof of birth in any court proceeding. As long as it's been properly authenticated by the state of Hawaii, it's game, set, match.

But this is really more about selling conspiracy and rage to frustrated wingnuts than anything else. They just want a way to nurse their grudge over the next 8 years, and this is gonna be it.

24. Maybe someday SNL will just read FR on the air
Well it looks like Rush & Sean & Mike (who's Mike) are going to pick this up next week because the dutiful citizens of FR have so directed them.
Best I can tell based the reporting there, Obama was born in Hawaii, Kenya and Indonesia. Hawaii of course was not as yet a state. They had probably decided to take a year off of that state stuff after a couple years. There were eyewitnesses for each of these births.
I sometimes think they are just out to top the Onion.
What surprises me is they have yet to figure out that Obama's mother was really a man because her given name was Stanley. Once they find that out hold on to your ballots, that will be the scandal of scandals.
Now to the bath.

The fact is that all this crap was thrown at the wall in the primaries and none of it stuck then. and he told me factcheck was owned by democrats who ran the board where Obama met Ayers.

I suggested they try the google and snopes, but both of those have also apparently been hi-jacked by Liberals.

I then suggested he sounded "fringy" and asked him if he saw space men in the sky?

he then told me this is why people hate liberals, we think we are so smart, and then suggested I was such a "bitch" I should punch Palin in the stomach.

No idea what he was talking about there, as no violence had been alluded to and certainly no name calling (until his).

I told him to stay "klassy" and that maybe the KKK rallies were rubbing off on him -- but heads up, threatening violence wasn't too cool outside of fringe world.

FLINSTONES: Not a TV show! a Freeper Dream!

Still laughing. Calling them fringy is just giving me so much pleasure. Apparently they think the entire world is a conspiracy theory....Along with global warming, etc.

44. I would encourage them in this.
It's not a practical use of their time at ALL. In fact, that's just a nice way of saying it's a total waste of time. Which is why they should be encouraged to continue.

Yes, indeed, where IS this strange-sounding HONOLULU place? Sounds like it's on MARS. That's it! He's an ACTUAL ALIEN!!!

45. "Game changer" is Freeperese for "Obama will hand us our asses".
"But you can get people to watch 11 minutes of interesting video raising a slew of questions for Obama, in fact cornering him, on the question of his birth, citizenship, and eligibility for office as POTUS under the Constitution. Especially if people start talking about the video. It's called viral distribution. A friend emails an Obama-supporting friend and dares him or her to watch."

Ooooh! Dare me to watch!

53. Their moms turn them on for them when delivering their breakfasts to the basement.
And off again at night after potty, prayers and tuck-in.

71. Laugh - But Be Prepared
Until today, this has not been reported by the MSM (unless you count Washington Times and WorldNetDaily as "MSM").

However, an Ohio Fox Affiliate (Toledo) ran a segment on the story TWICE today.

We can fully expect that, as the republicans get more and more "desperate" given the polls, they will continue to reach for these types of stories.

So - be prepared, is all I'm saying. And - when you get questions about the complaint, consider checking WhatsYourEvidence.com, for links you can include in your responsive posts and/or e-mail responses.
