Speaker at McCain rally says non-Christians want an Obama win
Posted: 09:30 PM ET

From CNN Political Producer Tasha Diakides

DAVENPORT, Iowa (CNN) – A minister delivering the invocation at John McCain’s rally in Davenport, Iowa Saturday told the crowd non-Christian religions around the world were praying for Barack Obama to win the U.S. presidential election.

“There are millions of people around this world praying to their god—whether it’s Hindu, Buddha, Allah—that his opponent wins, for a variety of reasons. And Lord, I pray that you will guard your own reputation, because they’re going to think that their God is bigger than you, if that happens,” said Arnold Conrad, the former pastor of Grace Evangelical Free Church in Davenport.

The remark was made before McCain arrived at the rally but the Republican nominee's campaign quickly put out a statement distancing itself from the remarks.

“While we understand the important role that faith plays in informing the votes of Iowans, questions about the religious background of the candidates only serve to distract from the real questions in this race about Barack Obama's judgment, policies and readiness to lead as commander in chief,” said McCain campaign spokesperson Wendy Riemann.

This incident comes a day after a Minnesota voter asked Senator McCain if Barack Obama was an Arab at a town hall in Lakeville, Minnesota and just three days after Lehigh GOP County Chairman Bill Platt made a speech at a McCain rally in Pennsylvania where he refered to the Democrat nominee for president as Barack Hussein Obama.

5. Oh for Pete's sake...in the first place, when it comes to Muslims and
Christians, IT'S THE SAME GOD.
Christians believe Jesus was God's son; Muslims believe that Mohamed was God's prophet. But it's the SAME GOD.

Honestly. What a bunch of loonies. And I am SICK TO DEATH of MCANUS allowing this SHIT to keep happening, but then putting out a "condemnation" of the attack, which is actually ITSELF ANOTHER ATTACK.

We are NOT fooled.

9. They seriously just don't get it. And I don't care that the McPalin's try
to distance themselves...they have created this situation, they condone what it is being said, and I have no doubt this will continue for the next 24 days. And they will just continue to push more and more people away.

11. And the irony here is...
...the fact that fringe evangelicals push away Christians who are not on the fringe.

McCain needs to understand the "lie down with dogs and you get up with fleas" concept.

:patriot:

16. Typical reich wing fundie Christian mentality isn't it?
I've never seen a more insecure bunch of people in my life. They have no faith at all, which is why they always have to reassure themselves like that. You ever seen us carry on like that about our gods?

18. Indeed. I thought Christians valued humility.
The arrogance in that prayer is staggering.

Although he gets points for Pantheism! ;-)

17. I love the UUs
My favorite UU joke:

Q: How do you scare a UU family out of the neighborhood?
A: Burn a question mark on their lawn.

:D

14. Notice that the McCain campaign didn't set the record straight about this either
Notice that they didn't bother to say that Obama is a Christian or to distance themselves from the insinuation that MUSLIMS and other unworthys types in their eyes support Obama. People from all faiths - and no faiths - are behind Obama.

This is just pathetic and it was planned. It's more of the same from McCain as they try to keep the hate and fear-mongering going at a fevered pace.

19. We have a 'friend' harassing us....
He has been sending us anti-Obama emails for months and we have kept quiet and ignored him as he is a neighbor. Now he has turned to the Christian/Muslim crap- Obama is a Muslim crap and garbage articles that anyone for Obama cannot be a Christian and is worshiping their new Messiah because they feel guilty about being white. That last thing is a twofer, I guess- gets the Muslim thing and hatred of blacks in the same email. Today it was a picture of Obama carrying the book 'The Post- American World' (a bestseller about how the world power structure is changing) which is supposedly PROOF Obama is a Muslim. Reading of course is dangerous to this type.

The funny thing is that we are very active members of our Christian church, my husband a Deacon, and we are in the church for various services and events at least 3 times a week. (It's a liberal church. ;-) ) This jerk hasn't set foot in a church in years, yet inundates us with this crap and tells us we are not Christians. I think if Obama comes to Atlanta the Secret Service should be made aware of this nutjob, don't you? He is no longer rational.
