'Hockey Mom' Palin Greeted By "Resounding (Almost Deafening) Boos" At Hockey Game
From Huffington Post:

'Hockey Mom' Palin Greeted By "Resounding (Almost Deafening) Boos" At Hockey Game

From the Sports Desk: You never know where you are gonna find a political scoop, but Lyn Zinser at her NYT hockey blog just posted that Sarah Palin, in her much-ballyhooed appearance dropping the puck at the Philly Flyers' opener, was greeted by "resounding (almost deafening) boos from the Flyers crowd." But Zinser's post had a lot more in mind: "I would object to this sideshow whichever political party it involved. Having vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin drop the ceremonial first puck at the Flyers' opener Saturday night was problematic not because it was Palin -- Flyers owner Ed Snider's decision under the flimsy excuse of 'honoring' hockey moms -- but because it is injecting politics in a place it should not be."

9. What I love about this is,
it forces Palin to confront the fact that she is NOT a mainstream, average, all-American Mom. When a crowd as typical this boos you, you are anything but that. Up till now, she has been so sheltered, she has only been exposed to those freaks who love her. It's good for her to be thrust into reality for once!

22. To be fair, Palin probably had no idea that this was the reaction she was going to get
They keep her in a protective bubble to shield her from anything other than the echo chamber. It's also obvious from the Troopergate investigation that Todd does the thinking for her. She probably came into this tonight thinking that she was going to be greeted warmly and with proud cheers.

Serves her and her ilk right. I just feel bad for the youngest daughter that they keep trotting around as a prop, like she does all of her kids. Her parents drug her into this knowing full well that this would be the reaction (at least the campaign should have known).

20. Damn right - there shouldn't be politics at sporting events. Period.
It's a distraction from the rigors of daily life and the tough times we are all going through. That's the way it should be - aside from the President throwing out the ceremonial first pitch or a politician that represents a certain area. Not a cheap political stunt like this.

To be honest, I wouldn't want Obama or Biden throwing out the first pitch at a Red Sox game right now or tossing the coin at a Steelers game. It's just not the place for it because when I sit down at my seat to watch the game, I want to escape from the world of politics and daily life. As much as I love them, I just wouldn't feel right about it.

27. Can the concern trolls now STOP scolding anyone who dares bring up Sarah Palin's props?
Errr, children?!!!!!

Honestly, I am sick to death of people scolding anyone who questions Palin's usage of her children when it's obvious she shamelessly, ruthlessly exploits them. She brought her 7 year old (7!! years old) into a highly charged environment like that hockey arena as a human shield.

I am thoroughly disgusted. She is a despicable mother and a shit-for-brains politician.

I cannot imagine the horror Bristol Palin endured at being dragged into a surprise appearance at her mother's nomination speech (a 17 year old FAT - and don't scold me, this is just how 17 year old girls think - young teenager having a national media spotlight upon her??!!), or the trauma the Downs Syndrome baby may have/may be enduring due to the noise, lights, commotion, jostling and tumbling, or the 7 year old now having to witness her mother being "resoundingly" booed. And this is just for starters.

Why is it so verboten to bring this up on DU?? Her treatment of these kids is relevant and, imho, flaunted. To say they are off limits as a topic discussion is whack.

She's using them as her shields folks.

29. If she were a TRUE hockey fan, she would have KNOWN using her kids wouldn't work in Philly
Philly could give a fat rat's ass if kids are there or not. She should have known that this was hostile territory and should NOT have subjected her kids to it.

I agree with your post.

31. Bingo. Anyone with a brain knew this was going to be the result two days ago!
They knew this was going to happen. Hell, Flyers fans are already pissed off beyond belief at how their owner has been using season ticket information to send out political flyers. And that's just the beginning of why they are mad at this guy. The could have brought Jesus onto the ice tonight and the fans would have booed.

She used her props tonight (or someone in the campaign did) to try to calm the crowd down and cheer for them. They pumped in extra loud music to try to drown the boos down and they kept sending reminders on the scoreboards for people to show "Philly Class". They knew this was coming and they know the tide is turning against them across the country thanks to her idiocy and hate mongering on the campaign trail.

"Don't worry, Sarah. You just don't understand.

"Here in Philadelphia, our cheers sound like boos. They really loved you out there. Now go fix your face--the tears are making your mascara run--and we'll go get Eskimo Pies brought all the way from Alaska!"
