I know why McCain said "He is a decent person. . . You don't need to be afraid
of an Obama Presidency"

The Secret Service TOLD him too!

I'll bet you anything. The cries from his & Sarah's angry mobs calling out to "kill him" finally tripped the wire..

3. Could be - But it also could be his way of getting out from under it
I still suspect the loud mouths in the crowds are plants. They could keep being morons and McCain could try to play it down.

The crowd would be incited to the rage yet the candidate stays out of the fray

7. This thing is starting to scare the sh*t out of me.
I read an article that said that McCain isn't letting the campaign attack Obama about Wright... but he could be holding it for the 11th hour.

The Republicans have these two very ugly, very damaging things that they can say about Obama. One: his name indicates that he's a Muslim/Terrorist. Two: he has close relationships with black militants. Obama can't change his name, and he can't change his past associations. And these two innuendos clearly can, and will, be used to smear him within the next 25 days.

Could they cost Obama the election? Is there anything he can slam back with???

Someone please convince me that McCain can't win with this strategy.

25. Maybe this is why Obama paid a million for that 30 minute spot
at the end of October. No more debates and giving clear points and answering all of the lies and smears before people go to the polls...

8. I think he got a few hundred calls from Republican office holders who just told
him to shut the fuck up or they were going to start endorsing Obama. It is costing them votes in tight races.

9. More like GOP party elders told him to tone it down or risk a 60-seat Dem Senate majority
That's what Ed Rollins was saying last night on CNN which is why you saw retiring Congressmen like Re. LaHood (an IL kingpin
during the DeLay days) today, and no doubt many others behind the scenes, fretting about McCain's "tone" because it was/is
turning off everyone but the the Rabid Right, including those all-important independent swing voters as well as undecideds.

13. I don't agree- I just saw the clip on the news, and I think Mccain
is finally seeing the hatred and violence he and Palin are inspiring and stoking.

I think he's sincerly afraid of the monster he has created.

Regardless of whatever happens, the reality is, McCain has LOST- lost anything of any worth. If he was able to steal the WH he'd still be the worlds biggest loser.

He's a sad old man.

16. I totally agree. And I don't think the Secret Service has authority to tell a candidate what to say.
If you watch McCain's reactions in those split-second moments when he hears someone shout, "Terrorist!" or some other epithet, it's clear McCain is wondering just what the hell he's gotten himself into. He doesn't like these stupid violent idiots, but his party is made up of too many of them to ignore.

McCain's been making bad moves ever since he started listening to the Rove crew. He made a deal with the devil in order to get ahead, and the devil is now taking payment.

15. Kerry turned up the heat on him
Could have also got some calls from fellow Senators saying they would go public against him if the shit didn't stop. Kerry he could slam, but if got some heat from other Repukes he might have wised up. Remember they have a lot of tight races, someone like McConnell could have slapped him around.
