we need to be 'respectful' says McNutz
Edited on Fri Oct-10-08 05:24 PM by cal04
From NBC/NJ's Adam Aigner-Treworgy
http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/10/10/1530713.aspx

McCain just called on his supporters to be respectful at his town hall.

"We want to fight, and I want to fight, but we will be respectful," McCain said to boos at first. "I want everyone to be respectful," he then said and people began to clap.

In response to a later question he added, "You can be respectful and point out facts," as he called on his supporters to point out facts to their neighbors but be respectful.

More to come.

McCain asks crowd to be 'respectful' of Obama

Working to dampen the angry crowd meme, McCain tells his Minnesota rally to take it easy, Amie Parnes reports:

At a town hall in Minnesota, McCain tried to tone down a week of raucus, angry crowds after one man stood up and said: "We want you to fight."

"The people here in Minnesota want to see a real fight. We want a strong president to lead us through the next four years."

"I think I got my marching orders," McCain said. But then he shifted tones.

"I am enthusiastic and encouraged by the enthusiasm and I think it's really good," McCain said. "We have to fight and i will fight but we will be respectful. I admire Sen. Obama and his accomplishments and I want to be respectful.

1. That's not enough
Respect is one thing, saying someone should die is quite another!

11. Not even close. Public apology to Obama needed by Palin and McCain.

She was visibly upset and angry herself.

His campaign just attacked Michelle and now he talks about respect :puke: :puke: :puke:
Or this is just an excuse why he will be a coward again in next week's debate.

4. Thankfully he was speaking to his supporters and not Obama's campaign
which is what I feared when I read your OP.

5. Well clearly he's realized this 3rd change of strategy failed.
My prediction, McCain will run a quiet campaign from here on out in hopes of changing public perception.

6. "Facts" like "he's palling around with terrorists"? Yeah, McCain, your facts are iron-clad.
And you don't even know the meaning of the word respectful.

He just blew the lines, again.

9. UPDATE
*** UPDATE *** McCain just added, "He is a decent person and a person who you do not have to be scared as president of the United States."

After that, McCain said of himself that he just thinks he'd be a better President of the the United States." Some in the crowd booed his statement and shouted, "No!"

More to come.

12. Are you serious?
And this after they just attacked Obama's wife? They really can't keep one position on anything. Not that I wouldn't be glad that if McCain were serious, but I don't trust him at all.

15. McCain is going to find out...
That the Hate Genie that he unleashed may not be so easy to put back in the bottle

He must be taking a beating on his internal polls if he is trying to stop this crap that he started.

22. I think the beating he got was from his fellow Republicans
The typical Republican represents money interests, not the lunatic fringe.

If there is one thing that Big Money does not like, it's a bunch of angry mobs. They can live with Democrats, even liberal Democrats who tax and re-regulate them. But angry mobs of any political bent do have a bad habit, historically, of putting the heads of rich people onto pikes and parading them through the streets.

I'll bet he and his campaign were told that he was about to bleed cash, RNC support, and endorsements unless he got his mobs under control.

17. That's a little better. Probably as good as we are going to get. Internals must have been sagging
and flak from Republicans getting hot for him to go that far.

16. logic FAIL
You don't hire the assholes who attacked your own adopted daughter in 2000 and then claim you want "that one" to be treated respectfully. FAIL.

18. Does this guy ever see his own TV ads?
Does he ever listen to what his spokespeople are saying? If he does, he'd apologize profusely and yank his negative ads off the air.
Loathsome, cranky and senile are not presidential qualities.

21. You know, the only reason I think the shitbag is pulling back a bit
is because of the media talking today about how THEIR reporters, camera guys, etc were being threatened by his crowds. Maybe some of the networks made a call? I don't think he gives a shit about the threatening nature of his crowds regarding Obama. This man is burnt toast and he's going to be the biggest thorn, ripping away at the GOP base to make it as hard as possible for an Obama administration to do the work that will need to be done to get this nation back on track. He is all about McKKKain first, not his country. I fear it's really going to be ugly after the election for Obama once he's sworn in.
