I fear for Obama's safety
Edited on Fri Oct-10-08 11:48 AM by edhopper
McCain/Palin are playing to the worst in their followers. I fear what they might unleash. To paint your opponent as a threat and enemy of America can have the most dire of consequences.
I am sickened and frightened by this.

1. No one on the "outside" can harm Obama. The Secret Service are good at what they do.
My worry is neighbor on neighbor violence.

3. Exactly.
I'm worried about how race relations in this country will be rolled back a few decades, at least for awhile. I fear for the enlightened folks in the south. Of course, I know that racists are everywhere. We have our share of them here in WA too.

7. Any fool cannot get him, and he is hardly out in the open.
He is very well protected.

6. Election Day and the day after could get ugly..
I'm hoping these are just a bunch of freepers full of hot air though. Hopefully they'll all slink back under their rocks once they're soundly defeated.

10. Yes, they are good, but I disagree with your first statement.
History tells us so.

Succesful attempts on JFK and Reagan, both of whom were under SS protection.

Let's just hope the Secret Service has improved a lot since these attempts.

13. It is my opinion that JFK's was not from an outsider.
Reagan was harmed, but was protected, ultimately.

17. Re. JFK, many share your opinion. But the attempt on Reagan was succesful.
And wasn't there an attempt on Ford as well, in which shots were taken?

2. He's had souped up SS protection since a threat early in the campaign, and
I'm sure it intensified when he received the nom.

The SS are fully aware of what's been happening at the McCain rallies, and I'm fairly confident they're taking this seriously and even being more cautious.

11. Everyone in the perimeter has been checked

Nobody is as naive as when that occurred.

When Dole was campaigning for president, I was having lunch at a public market in Philly when he dropped in unscheduled to meet voters. The way that the SS maintains a ring around the candidate, and watches all of the hand and eye movements of those within it, yet remains somewhat unobtrusive about it, is a fascinating thing to behold.

They are very very very good at what they do, and they are very committed to it.

12. RFK did not have SS protection.
He was not the nominee when he was killed.

20. He had plenty of protection. His car was surrounded by agents.
And why wouldn't he have had protection? Since he was the president and no longer a nominee, he would have greater protection.

8. I stated in another thread
that if somebody takes a pot shot at Obama, then McCain, Palin and their campaign advisers should be brought up on charges of conspiracy and accomplices' to a crime.

9. He will be fine
It's random acts of violence and vandalism against unarmed and unsuspecting innocent people of color and liberals you should be worried about.

and seem pretty relaxed, focused, positive, and moving foward.

18. Jodie Foster = Sarah Palin
One of those assholes Palin obviously heard spouting murderous hatred but thought nothing of setting straight could easily be under her Vampy Kool Aid spell, and try to impress her just like John Hinckley, Jr. was trying to impress Jodie Foster.

19. I agree with the original post. I worry about this a lot.
I lived through the assassinations of JFK, MLK, RFK,

I don't know if I am strong enough to handle another major depression of hope and spirit like I did 3 times in the 60's.

21. I'm with you...
there are many of us who lived through those events, who have our red flags flying...imo it's unrealistic to believe anything is impossible..especially when you have the opposition inciting the lunatic fringe on an almost daily basis..wb
