Republican Congressman Criticizes Palin

<snip>

Veteran Republican Congressman Ray LaHood criticized his party's vice presidential nominee Friday, saying that Sarah Palin's vitriolic campaign rallies ""don't befit the office she's running for."

Rep. LaHood, who has represented Illinois' 18th district for seven terms and is retiring in January, told WBBM Radio that Palin should control the racially-charged heckling at her rallies:

"Look it. This doesn't befit the office that she's running for. And frankly, people don't like it."

Some of the names Obama is being called, which include "Terrorist" and "Osama," "certainly don't reflect the nature of the man," LaHood said to WBBM.

LaHood supports John McCain's candidacy, but warned that the heckling could backfire on the Republican ticket.

Goodness doesn't enter into this... otherwise they would have spoken out alot sooner. The polls are telling them what to say.

GOP Insiders Predicting Obama Victory - RawStory

Republican consultant Michelle Laxalt was particularly critical of McCain's decision to employ Palin as an attack dog.

"They have send this young, naive -- very confident, perhaps in Alaska -- young woman out with the most incendiary talking points, the most dangerous racist talking points and I think they should be ashamed of themselves," Laxalt told CNN's Larry King Thursday night.

Let the Republican party finally become the honest party of fascists, and reach the point where all 10 of them can buy their own little compound somewhere.

28. It's hit a tipping point

This is not just any election. This is a fundamental realignment.

It's kind of like global warming - the effects and damage are happening faster than anticipated.

A better analogy might be panic selling on Wall Street.

Nobody wants to be associated with the mob at the core of the R "base".

17. Reasoned opposition is fine. Principled opposition is fine - even if the principles are screwy

But all decent people reject hate, and what we have here is a man with some decency in him.

20. I agree, but I still think that any reasonably intelligent person would support Obama.
At this point, the stark difference between the candidates goes well beyond policy. This man seems to see that. I'm not sure why he's still supporting McCain at all.

30. "even if the principles are screwy"

There are those conservatives who believe, like Soviet apologists, that the "problem" resides in Republican government not going far enough, and compromising away "what really works" according to their theories.

I try to think of "legitimate" arguments for McCain. About the only thing I can come up with is that if one has an unshakeable belief that the only thing which matters politically is making abortion illegal, and there are no other balancing political or moral concerns, then McCain remains your guy.

But what I encounter among McCain supporters and leaners is a generalized "I just don't like Obama" with no supporting rationale. You can't call that out, but you have to help that individual come to grips with what is really bubbling up from their subconscious. And, again, when decent people do that, they come to something of an epiphany.

from repubs who are uncomfortable with the toxic tone of his campaign. They may give him a chance to tone it down. If he doesn't, I predict you will see an en masse recoil away from him.

7. Here they come...the moderate Republicans see the coming catastrophe of the McCain/Palin demagoguery
They are coming out today in droves to denounce it. And for good reason: it is exceptionally dangerous in a time of economic peril to have groups verging toward the thin border that constitutes civil society. These people are pushing political violence.

I think every republican who denounces the way McCain and Palin are stoking the rage of the frenzied mob should be congratulated.
