Obama Yard Sign Burned
ALTADENA, Calif. (KABC) -- These days, you see a lot of presidential campaign signs in front yards. However, a sign in Altadena has been burned. Investigators are trying to figure out if it was a prank or, perhaps, a hate crime.

Reginald Ingram, an Altadena resident, showed a sheriff's deputy the remains of a suspicious act on Tuesday. The Obama-Biden campaign sign, similar to many others on his block, had been moved by someone to a neighbor's lawn. Only the frame was visible, so it was hard to distinguish at first. However, he saw a tool that told him the act was deliberate.

"There is a cigarette lighter at the bottom of it. And you can see all the ash from where it had been torched," said Ingram.

Ingram is one of few African-Americans on Sonoma Drive. For the last seven years his front lawn has been the gathering site for a 4th of July parade and block party; a diverse event to celebrate freedom of speech, among other liberties.

they are dumber than a bag of rocks. This only empowers us and should make those who have had their signs vandalized, much more motivated and determined...

2. A PRANK??? Are they serious?
Anybody sets fire to anything in my yard, it's not a prank.

3. It was a hate crime
Maybe not a racially motivated hate crime but hate none less.

Republicans hate Democrats and their hate is incited by these radical candidates who hold nazi style rallies. Someone is bound to take their hate and turn it into violence. It is a natural progression.

It should be treated as a hate crime.

6. We had two Kerry signs burned on separate occasions.
We reported it but nothing was done. They said we needed a license number. Go figure.

7. there are far, far more of us than there are of them. and should the violent,
reactionary right raise its ugly, wart-filled head in the wake of this election, i believe they'll have it snapped off very quickly.

go to their sites and they're bragging about how many guns they've bought lately. they act as though they're about to raise some kind of holy hell over this election. personally, i don't believe it will happen. they're known for being big talkers.

if it does, though, i believe they will truly wish they hadn't started anything. violence may beget violence in some situations; however, there are lots of ways to retaliate against people and deliver payback that don't have anything to do with violence. people aren't going to stand by idly and watch the snoteaters set this country back further.

8. McCain's own hand was on that lighter.
Inciting hate crimes is shameful and should be prosecuted.

9. My husband and I found 2 signs that had been stolen, vandalized and then thrown
tossed into the weeds along side of the road earlier this week. The vandals had attempted to rip one of them and the metal frame on the other was all bent up and mangled like someone would do in a fit of rage.

We knew the one sign was from our neighbor's yard who lived directly across the street from where we found the signs. We straigtened out the frame and put the one untorn sign back on it and placed it back in his yard which borders a busy road. Yesterday the sign was gone again. Today, our neighbor has a new sign stapled to a heavy wooden frame placed close to his house.

None of the dozens of McCain signs around here have been touched, only the Obama signs.

I have an Obama sign, but I am buying a motion detector spotlight to set up next to it before I put in in my yard. I had 4 signs stolen from my yard during the 2004 presidential campaign. I'd love to catch the thief on video and post it on you tube.
