Palin dropping ceremonial puck at Philly Flyers home opener AND WILL BE BOOED. LOUDLY.
Edited on Thu Oct-09-08 09:51 PM by nomorewhopper
The City of Brotherly Love is planning to greet Alaska Barbie with their own version of the Bronx Cheer. She's dropping the puck at the NHL's Philly Flyers on Saturday, and she's going to be booed, LOUDLY.

I hope that anyone and everyone in Philly who plans to attend the game will:

1) make signs
2) boo. LOUDLY
3) take pictures and video to record the aforementioned signs and boos for posterity

and i suppose, most of all, beat NY!

edited to add that palin apparently met the owner of the flyers during the first debate, when palin was sequestered in an irish pub. i'm not entirely sure if that's true. i'm sure that somebody here can google it. what i do know is that she will be booed, very loudly.

This games tickets were sold long before this was annouced. Philadelphia is 70% democratic and the subburbs are trending democratic. You do the math. The best the McCain can hope for is a 40% Obama supporter rate and that is still alot of boos.

I'm a casual fan. I'll go to about 2-3 games a season. I can't watch it on TV. It's a game that was made for an arena and a cold beer. Kind of like Baseball outside of the playoffs. BTW Fuck Toronto and Joe Carter baseball wise for 1993.

Gotta love that NHL center ice!

Bummer that my Wings lost though. Ah well, at least I got to see them raise the banner. And my boy Holmstrom (representing the 96 in my name FWIW) got both of the Wing's goals, so the game itself wasn't a total loss.

This SCREAMS bad idea. In the best case scenario for McCain 40% of the crowd will be Obama supporters and after the way his campaign has acted and the market news this week they won't be respectful. Worst case scenario 60% will be Obama supporters and they will boo her the fuck out of the arena.

Same media coverage with significantly less risk of bodily harm.

Where they really should be sending her is Bucks County. Obama lost that county in the primaries by a HUGE margin. Plenty of racists there. And considering how much they lurve stirring up the racists lately, it's a perfect fit for them. But if they want to send her to Philly to be booed and pelted by tubes of lipstick, so be it.

62. you are right about Bucks being the battleground
however, not all Bucks is going Republican... our canvassers are saying that there are definitely sections that are going Republican. However, voter registration is high and there is a lot of support for Obama. Our volunteers are definitely pumped with a lot of backup from NY/NJ.

What will start to sway the voters is an all out attack on Palin -- people are "thinking Republicans". However, this year they are not using their brains. They like Palin's kick ass style. However, if Palin can be shown to crack under pressure, they will turn on her when she can't take it. If Palin caves, McCain will cave here in Bucks.

31. They want the Philly Media Market which I understand
it covers Philly, S. Jersey, the 5 county suburbs and the Lehigh Valley. It covers roughly 10-12 million people. However a Flyers game is the wrong venue. Ed Snyder is a huge repug (the corporate master from Comcast) Out of all the fans in Philadelphia though hardcore Flyers fans are the worst. They are honestly worst and more vocal than Eagles fans of which I'm one.

They have to know that Philly and New York fans will be overwhelmingly pro-Obama.

So, Sarah goes out there, drops the puck, and gets roundly booed. Some even throw lipstick tubes at her.

It hits the national media and McCain tries to portray Sarah as a sympathetic figure, and "How could those Obama people be so rude and mean to a woman? They almost caused serious harm to her! You want him in the White House?"

So.... we'll see. I wouldn't put it past the McCain people to try that.

It all fits in with their "push the base into a frenzy" strategy. Show 'em video of The Anointed Sarah being "abused and harassed" by those heartless Commie Democrats in Philly!

At this point, they don't give a damn about winning the election. They know it's hopeless. What they're doing now is stoking up the fires to ensure that Obama's first two years are a living hell.

They want the country divided and angry, to keep anything from being done. They want another Gingrich Revolution in the midterms, and they know the best way to do that is to provoke and goad their base into a blind rage. Obama won't get a fair chance to try and change things - he's already been judged and found guilty in the Republican court of opinion.

From now on, their only goal is to try and destroy him, just as the Arkansas Project tried to do with Clinton.

Hockey fans are rough. She is walking right into the lion's den. If she cracks, it's over for the pitbull image. There is nothing like having your face rubbed in it. Frankly, I hope the sponsors of the game don't let the lipsticks get handed out. Palin could get seriously hurt by flying metal. This is just not too bright.

71. There is a protest going on against this
Ask everyone to email vice-president of hockey operations Shawn Tilger at stilger@comcast-spectacor.com to express your displeasure. Also flood the Flyers switchboard with phone calls at 215-218-4326 or 215 755 9700. Also e-mail director of customer service Cindy Stutman at cstutman@comcast-spectacor.com. Thanks keep up the good fight!

72. At what time will this happen? Will it be on live TV?
I am not a sports fan (I never heard of the Flyers until today, if that tells you anything) so I have no idea how to catch this event. But I'd love to watch. I have cable (used mostly for MSNBC), will it be on there?

75. I think it is in our best interests to tamp down on this
I think we should start a public campaign to discourage violence and throwing stuff. Throwing stuff at Palin would also hit the players and the ref. I think turning your back on palin when she drops the puck might be OK (although you'd be missing the equivalent of the opening kickoff) or something else along those lines. I think booing is OK and impossible to stop... but I think us Democrats need to talk about PEACEFUL protest... kinda hard to sell to hockey fans... but it really is in our better interests. Maybe a massive cell protest at the games to comcast and the owner of the Flyers would be a good thing.
