Troopergate report "could prove to be an embarrassment for Palin and a distraction for McCain" (AP)
Court removes last hurdle for Palin ethics inquiry

By MATT APUZZO – 1 hour ago

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Alaska's Supreme Court has refused to shut down an ethics investigation into Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican vice presidential nominee.

The decision Thursday sets the stage for state lawmakers to release a report on their investigation Friday. The report could prove to be an embarrassment for Palin and a distraction for John McCain's presidential campaign in the final weeks of the race.

Lawmakers are investigating whether Palin abused her power to settle a family dispute. Her former public safety commissioner says he was dismissed after resisting pressure to fire a state trooper who had gone through nasty divorce from Palin's sister.

Republican lawmakers had sued to block the report, saying it had become politicized.

8. This is great. I was a bit concerned they would be able to kill it.
There must be some good dirt in that report otherwise they would not be trying so hard to kill it. Hope the media gives it some attention. This economic crisis seems to be commanding the headlines now and may drown out the effect.

12. Gov. Palin needs to be Impeached, now!!!

At the very least, Alaskans need to mount a Recall Petition & toss her out. She is corrupt & inept. The vetting process of her becoming Gov. must have been almost non existent. Her abuses while Gov. have been ignored until recently. The spotlight now has revealed her unethical & perhaps criminal actions as Gov. She screwed up by accepting the VP position that is way beyond her level & has brought about scrutiny of her as Mayor & Gov. She is unfit to be Gov., much less VP or possibly Pres. of the USA..

11. If it does reveal something damning, Obama and Biden need to stay
away from it other than "Private matter for Governor Palin and McCain campaign". Let the media do the work--a scandal is like crack to them.

14. Well, it's not a private matter. It's about a governor abusing her power...
Edited on Thu Oct-09-08 06:38 PM by speedoo
and that's a very public matter. And remember mcCain selected her knowing she was under investigation for this.

As for what Obama/Biden do about it, it depends on what ther report says. If it's bad, they should certainly make sure the media is reporting on it. If it's really bad, they should talk about it directly, bringing it back to McCain's judgement in selecting her, knowing she was under investigation for this matter.

17. OK, I'll concede that, but I maintain
that it should not knock them off of their economic message.

Maybe you're right--they should say "I guess it raises questions about Senator McCain's judgment that he was willing to choose as his running mate a governor who abused her power to fire people for personal reasons."

But don't go into depth. Don't get caught in a tit-for-tat.

22. Oh, definitely keep the economy on the front burner, but keep hitting on McCain.
Hit on his judgement, his being erratic, etc. It's almost as imprtant as the economy, because the message is, McCain is the same as Bush, his judgement is bad, he's been very erratic.

McCain can't handle these economic preblems, but I can.

24. I don't think they have time or power to deal with that right now.
They have too much shit to explain in regards to the failing economy; especially when it goes down some more tomorrow.

21. Settle a dispute? Bullshit.
It wasn't to "settle a family dispute." She abused her power to pursue a family vendetta. Way different thing.
