OBAMA on AIG spree: "Return the money and fire them"
Fuckin-ay!

Last week I was pricing rooms in Half Moon Bay for a group event.

The Ritz-Carlton was excessively expensive, about $550/night for the cheapest rooms.

Oct. 8 (Bloomberg) -- American International Group Inc., castigated by the White House, Congress and Barack Obama for hosting a $440,000 conference days after an $85 billion federal bailout, plans to hold another gathering for brokers next week...

...``AIG, a company that got a bailout, just a week after they got help, went on a $400,000 junket,'' Obama said. ``And I tell you what: the Treasury should demand that money back and those executives should be fired.''

6. It is a PERFECT example of so many problems with our government, and with
the corporations, and of the slimy relationships between the two.

It's enough to make me almost support the death penalty.

3. Exactly!
I wouldn't mind the execs being forced to do some community service too. It'll be rough on their manicured nails, but they need to understand what real work is.

15. And apparently Wachovia is planning a cruise !!
If we could find out about these in advance, we should join them. Show up with our bags, ready to join the festivities as their sponsors.

13. Update: Per MSNBC, AIG has pulled the plans.
Smart move.

It's every bit as much an issue, that they'd take our bailout money and still want to live like kings.

Bastards.

18. I wholeheartedly agreed with Obama when he said that at the
debate. Then I read that AIG is asking for and apparently getting MORE MONEY! Even after their wasteful retreat...courtesy of the tax payers, who, BTW, don't have the luxury of that kind of R&R.

19. If we are 80% owners, we should have hiring and firing authority, through the president.
Or the designee of the government.

We should treat this like a real takeover - which means firing most of the top people and cutting salaries drastically at the top.

21. oh, i get it...
....barack thought everyone was going to be on their best behavior after he voted for the bailout. pretty naive, i'd say. ( i know the aig bailout preceeded the "bailout" but it's all the same to me.).

and where's the oversight? we'll work out those details later.
