My theory re: "Prisoner" remark by McEarlysenile
He feels that he is prisoner of his own campaign: that he's trapped in an untenable situation. He never would have picked Palin and painted himself into a corner with people with whom he has never felt comfortable, and he also has the dissonance of employing the very folks who ran that disgraceful campaign against him in 2000. He is a shallow individual as evidenced by his life history and does not possess the requisite depth to surmount the personal affronts. He's actually quite anti-intellectual, incurious, and stupid and not enough credit, or demerit, is given this fact.

Many of his advocates and detractors give him way too much credit...
