Palin to drop first Puck at Philly Flyers Game: this is risky IMO

http://www.philly.com/philly/hp/news_update/20081009_For_Palin__the_puck_stops_here.html

Without question, though, the most unusual appearance will be that of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

After appearing at a Republican fund-raiser at the Park Hyatt at the Bellevue on Saturday afternoon, the Alaska governor is to drop the ceremonial first puck at the Flyers' regular-season opener at the Wachovia Center.

"We are very excited she has accepted our offer and we are very proud of the publicity she is generating for hockey moms and the sport of hockey," said Comcast-Spectacor chairman Ed Snider, who runs the Flyers.

Last month, after Palin spoke in her acceptance speech about being a hockey mom, the Flyers launched a search for the area's "ultimate hockey mom." The winner will be on the ice with Palin for the faceoff.

It actually made me nauseous.

3. Exposing Palin(comparison) to FLYERS Fans?
Yeah. That'll work.

I wonder if they might be looking for a "Mrs. alito" moment.

PEACE!

8. Hockey fans are a much different breed than the fawning media. They despise PRETENDERS.

She may "wow" some dumb ass right wingers but even the average republican is waking up to her insincerity ... and hockey fans can see through bluster.

13. As a former Philadelphian,...
...I can very truly say that Flyers fans are TOUGH, and they don't hesitate to let people they don't like know it.

PEACE!

5. Palin will be booed unmercifully
Politicians get booed at sporting events. Philly is a Democratic town and it's Palin. The booing will be merciless. Hopefully this will be in the news for the next 24 hours.

10. It's bullshit that they elevate this woman who uses "catchy phrases" in order to ingratiate herself

with certain groups. I'm curious, when was the last time Palin actually FUNCTIONED as "a hockey mom?" Given Trig's personal and legal problems, I'm surmising that it wasn't in the recent past. He sure as shit isn't fitting in too many hockey games as he transits over to The Middle East Theater.

12. Oh no! Joey the Scar said this AM that Palin is smarter than everyone in Congress.
Edited on Thu Oct-09-08 06:56 AM by ShortnFiery
That is, nobody (no other politician) could have rebuffed a heckler as well as "the genius" Palin.

"God Bless you sir! My son is fighting over in Iraq so that you may be permitted to protest."

Yes, I'm sure that erudite reply was spontaneous and not fed to her OR memorized for just such an occasion. :eyes:

14. I suspected much the same, ShortnFiery
I even suspect the heckler was planted, so her chastisement would be accepted meekly.

They wouldn't risk her admonishing an actual democrat heckler, what if he reminded her publicly that the war is for oil, not freedom?

17. Angelo Cataldi is a major democrat - he'll get the crowds riled up before the game
I was shocked to see Cataldi hosting the Bruce Springsteen concert in Philly but this guy is a passionate democrat. I hope he's bitching about it on WIP
