He HATES the Republican Party. Yeah, that's it! He knows he's at the end of his career, entering his twilight years. He has seen his party be taken over by religious zealots and Big Government spenders. So he decides, in a fit of Mavericky rage to do everything possible to destroy the party he thinks has been corrupted by embarking on a giant Kamikaze mission of Mavericktude! It's not about winning; it's about revenge! Why should he care about what happens? He's 72, a millionaire, and probably dying anyway, so what does he really have to lose here? He is the self-ordained puppetmaster of GOP destruction! He's taking down the party that ruined him eight years ago! He's making like Thelma and Louise and gunning the engine of this busted up ride over the cliff side in the hopes that maybe one day, whatever springs forth from the ashes of this phoenix of ineptitude will look at him as something of a hero. He's the man who destroyed the Republican Party so that he may save it!

He's like Ras al Ghul from Batman!

What do ya think? Is that Mavericky enough for ya? LOL

3. I do think that there is some truth to that...
...because he was very angry at his party during the Republican Convention.

McCain was all set to pick Lieberman as his running mate. He told his fellow Republicans about his
intentions and they told him that if he picked Lieberman, that there would be "riots on the convention
floor." In a short time, McCain acquiesced and gave in.

McCain never picked Palin. She was picked for him. She's the darling of the Fundies. McCain isn't
in that crowd.

She's been an anchor around his neck. She had a great convention speech, but then it was 3 weeks of
embarrassing hell showcasing Palin's stupidity. She dragged McCain down. Yes, she excites the base,
but those yahoos were voting for McCain anyway. He's a maverick and he knew that he had to appeal to
the Independents and some Reagan Democrats. Palin is radioactive to those demographics.

McCain knows that Palin can't move the needle for him. I'm sure that pisses him off to no end. Can
you imagine how upset he must have been when she was singlehandedly derailing the campaign and turning
it into a bit SNL skit?

I think he's very angry at his party for picking her.

5. Undoubtedly. Perhaps the Palin thing was the last straw for him.
Because it wasn't until then that his campaign entered Bizarro World. I have been convinced that he really does not give a shit. This campaign (actually just HIS campaign, really) has become a spectacle. It's being hardened this way by the media and in pop culture. It's very hard to reverse something like that.

8. In a way, yes. But Dubya IS the problem.
Maybe McCain is trying to finally smash the Jesus freak neo-cons for good!

9. He is ambitious, and at the end of his life.
He will do anything that will get him that last brass ring, even if it means bringing hockey-crotch on board.

Edited on Thu Oct-09-08 02:14 AM by mrih
He feels that now is his chance to get back at those evil war mongering government types for all the PTSD nightmares he endured by taking the very worst of the parties behaviors and use them as his campaign tactic to not only bring the GOP down, but knock them out of the human race forever..

John McCain, a MAVERICK, and HERO to be proud of.

He really should get more respect from DU'ers then he does, his Maverick ways have paved the way for prosperity for all of us.
