I smell desperation. He's a young guy, a plumber in his twenties; I don't think he has a clue as to what that sign really means.

27. I had intended to respond with a fifty foot high inflatable column.
Full color LED picture of Barack on every side. Perhaps moments from the debates. Or the New Hampshire speech.

With speakers and searchlights.

And a microwave beamer.

Overkill?

8. It's good that he announces his stupidity so broadly.
You now know that his is an unsafe house. Anyone who has a McCain/Palin sign apparently condones their inciting of violence recently. Clearly, he is ok with this, so take this as a warning that this is clearly not a stable person and keep away. Personally, we've made a mental note of the three wackadoodles who have McCain/Palin signs in their lawn and will do the same. Anyone who condones violence is not a safe person. Regardless of your past associations with this person, I think their character is showing.

12. No way. Leave sign-stealing to the junior high kids.
There's no excuse for anyone beyond an 8th grade maturity to steal a political sign from someone's yard, period.

22. Yeah, but this isn't in his yard. It's on top of his garage.
Any moron can steal a sign from someone's yard. It takes planning, willpower, and smarts to rip it down from the top of the garage. Like I said above, it's a challenge.

Anyway, I'm not advocating that he actually steal the sign. I think he should remove it from the the garage, and plant it in the neighbor's yard. It'll be a triumph of the human spirit.

work away from any argument over content
size permitting and placement are usually clearly defined in municipal codes

13. THE BEST WAY TO HANDLE IT:
Edited on Thu Oct-09-08 12:45 AM by DontTreadOnMe
Take a photo and place it here on DU. Let 10 people photoshop it with various phrases.
Exposing these types on the internet is easy, and the best way to shame them.
Then print out the various photoshop versions, and leave a few copies showing they are on the "web" in the guy's yard.
When he sees his house and sign are posted all over the internet, he will forever be associated with "that house".

How embarrassing is it to be THIS guy? This guy can never live this down. He is the "moran" guy.. forever.

18. I'm seeing more and more McCain/Palin signs in MN
but can't seem to get ahold of an Obama one here. I went to the DFL office in Maple Grove again and they said they've been having trouble getting Obama signs.

I'm not sure I've seen a single one. I'm not worried though, I figure McCain is just dumping money here and Obama will come about closer to the end, part of his rope-a-dope strategy. I do wish, however, that Obama signs were more readily available here.

24. They had them today at the HQ in St. Paul on Raymond...
near University Ave.

And you can order them on-line.

There are a lot of Obama signs in my neighborhood. There weren't nearly as many Kerry signs in 2004.

A week after I put up my Obama lawn sign, the next door neighbors put up a McCain/Palin sign.
My son asked, "you're not going to fight with them, are you?"

26. I shall. Thanks for the advice,
Part of me wants it to stay there, to make the act of taking it down after defeat that much more disheartening, to spur him into soul-searching.

I remember my feeling after 2004, taking down my lawn signs. One of the worst days of my life.

So bad that I ended up searching for and finding the Democratic Underground. Which has healed and strengthened me, and made me much wiser.

In fact, I've learned things here that I would think could not have been learned in any other time or place. I see myself, my strengths and weaknesses in other posters. It's been an amazing curve.

I hope he grows from his oncoming defeat as well.

30. Teach him how to do the McCain "Penguin" sound - "Heeaa"
Go over to his door and ask him if he's seen McCain in recent videos. Then show him by walking like a stiff penguin and make a "Heeea!" sound. Maybe add a girly Palin-like "you betcha!"... See if he will do it for $20.

Many communities have rules against such signs. They go in the yard, not on the roof.

I'd love to put a ginormous Barack sign in my yard but not only would it take longer to make it than it would take the police to tear it down, I'd probably find myself with a fine to pay.

40. my neighbor put mccain/palin sign in his front yard
along with two other republicans running. actually, i've seen a few mccain/palin signs around and i was getting a little down. haven't seen any obama ones. i guess i am in a republican area of upstate ny. i told my husband i wanted to plaster obama signs all over. it's tough though, as it's hard for folks to see anything from the road. i guess i could attach some to the fence. but i wanted to make sure the neighbor could see them. lol. i have half a mind to go over and tell him he must have a private pension and not have medicare (he's really old). but we don't really get along with him as he is an ornery guy. i kind of feel sorry for him all alone over there, but... every time i have spoken to him he seems to spread lies around. uggh.

anyway, i have been feeling a bit blue, but yesterday when i stopped for gas on my way home, i had a guy who was also pumping gas on the other side ask me where i got my obama sticker. i asked him why he asked and he said he wanted one. he said he thinks mccain is too old and he didn't like palin. i gave him the website address (democraticstuff.com) and told him that it was free. it lifted my spirits a bit. and then i wished i had had some on me to give him one. it was the first time anyone had asked me about the sticker. oh, i hope obama wins.

I see very few McCain/Palin signs and the ones I do see are all 2ft X 4ft and mounted about 3 or 4 foot off the ground. I've yet to see any of the small signs in anyone's yard.
