The owner of those shares feels like they're over exposed on Obama. Lets say they own 50,000 Obama. They are choosing to "hedge" their bets. They sell down 10,000 to McCain to limit their overall exposure to Obama. Basically, they are protecting their assets just in case somehow McCain wins. Fairly common on intrade, on the stock market, and in regular gambling. It's also referred to as "middling."

OR, the owner of the bet paid at 60, and is now cashing in at 75.
