Obama to McCain: "Say It To My Face"
Edited on Wed Oct-08-08 06:56 PM by kpete
Obama to McCain: "Say It To My Face"

In an interview on ABC News, Sen. Barack Obama called Sen. John McCain's attempts to link him to 1960s anti-war radical Bill Ayers are an attempt to "score cheap political points."

Then he issued a challenge to his rival.

Said Obama: "I am surprised that, you know, we've been seeing some pretty over-the-top attacks coming out of the McCain campaign over the last several days, that he wasn't willing to say it to my face. But I guess we've got one last debate. So presumably, if he ends up feeling that he needs to, he will raise it during the debate."

It's a challenge and we'll see if mccain is up to it or does he know Obama will unleash the Keating5 hounds of hell on him if he does?

What's up with you guys? I said "Good way for Obama to come out" as in, it's a good thing that he's talking about why McCain didn't bring it up.

I am a huge Obama supporter.

Nice way for you all to dump on a new poster.

BTW, it's almost like Obama WANTS McCain to say it in a debate. Like he's got some huge gotcha ready for it.

53. no, it works like this - curb your excessive paranoia
occe made a perfectly relevant comment that made perfect sense in context, and you bugged out trying to make it mean something completely irrelevant because he/she is new. No new person or long time lurker with a low post count deserves to be jumped on and have every word they say dissected because of the bizarre paranoia over trolls that contaminates this place. If your excessive paranoia gets your panties twisted in a bunch you know what the alert button is for.

You owe occe an apology, not snarky uncalled for comments about how YOU would like them to post or how things work here. How things work here was set up very well by the admins and is controlled very well by the mods, you know how that system works, and you know it's not the fictitious "feed my excessive paranoia" process you'd like it to be.

39. There are some sensitivities here
We've had a lot of trolls and wingnut disruptors here in recent months. Some people are highly and sometimes overly suspicious of newbies. Especially if there's any possibility of multiple interpretations of things they say, then people jump to conclusions. There are also suspicions of people who run up a lot of posts in a short time (such as your 137 in three days), even though that is as likely to indicate an enthusiastic newbie as to indicate a paid Republican operative who is here to disrupt.

Welcome to DU.:hi:

11. Obama is using McCain's nasty comments to bait him. It's the temper thing...

He knows that the "He's not brave enough to say that to my face" tact will raise McCain's ire, and bring up the temperament thing.

If McCain mentions it at the debate, he'll look desperate, angry, and erratic. If he doesn't, he'll have backed down.

In the meantime, it will gnaw at McCain and could get him angry enough to make more mistakes.

Obama is really good at this stuff. When many people were frustrated that he didn't show more emotion to "connect with the public," he stayed his course. That same detachment is what's making him appear presidential as McCain flops around like a beached fish.

27. Josh Marshall's 'Bitch Slap theory'
Originally used as an explanation for the swift boat attacks it seems quite relevant here.

Consider for a moment what the big game is here. This is a battle between two candidates to demonstrate toughness on national security. Toughness is a unitary quality, really -- a personal, characterological quality rather than one rooted in policy or divisible in any real way. So both sides are trying to prove to undecided voters either that they're tougher than the other guy or at least tough enough for the job.

In a post-9/11 environment, obviously, this question of strength, toughness or resolve is particularly salient. That, of course, is why so much of this debate is about war and military service in the first place.

One way -- perhaps the best way -- to demonstrate someone's lack of toughness or strength is to attack them and show they are either unwilling or unable to defend themselves -- thus the rough slang I used above. And that I think is a big part of what is happening here. Someone who can't or won't defend themselves certainly isn't someone you can depend upon to defend you.

I'm just not sure if Obama slapped McCain or answered McCain's slap. Whichever it is, Obama won this round (just like the previous 722 rounds)

42. Another Great Use Of Language Later In The Story
"Frankly, you know, Senator McCain ended up lurching from place to place on this issue," he said. "And that, I think, is not the kind of leadership that we're going to need if we're going to be able to guide the economy out of this perilous position."

That phrase "lurching from place to place" is just perfect -- it ties in McCain's erratic judgment with his physical performance at the debate, where at times he was shambling around like an extra from Dawn of the Dead. It could grow into the sort of "physical and mental bumbling" meme that afflicted Gerald Ford.

I've read several stories about McCain pointing his finger into other people's chest. That's about as high as McCain can reach, POW injuries or not. He's a short guy.

Has anyone decked McCain in the last ten years for his bullying? From what I've read, he deserves it.
