So seriously - who wants to have a DC meetup blowout for the inauguration in DC
I have a hotel room reserved but I'm going to keep checking for better locations (mine is in Silver Spring right now).

Hopefully we can have a great party at the Hawk & Dove again (A DU DC Hangout)!

I know we have alot of work to do and I would suggest making plane reservations on 11/5 - but I so want to be there when Obama is sworn in!

5. There's a bar over on Capital Hill right by the metro where we've had 4-5 DU Parties
so I would go with them first. They have great prices and have always taken great care of us. I figured either Sunday or Monday night we'd have the party.

There are also some other great bars in town like Mackey's Public House, Post Pub, Front Page. We could do a pub crawl!

10. Hotel rooms are bleak. I'm in Silver Spring, MD
The Capital Hill Suites is like $300/night

But I'm also hoping that some of the rooms will clear out after republican supporters start cancelling their rooms. HOWEVER, DC is the type of town where hotel space is much more expensive during the week since it's all business travel and then the weekends the rooms are much much cheaper.

I'll keep trying.

26. I checked the CHS site a couple of weeks ago and they were all booked up
If my daughter and I can stay with her friend, I think we'll come. I just put Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday on the calendar as vacation days. My daughter thinks we should drive in my smart car. I'm just concerned about driving in January, not knowing what the weather might be like. I also don't want to have to worry about parking my car for four or five days. We could actually drive in on Saturday and drive home Wednesday, but we'll see.

27. Well that's the beauty of the Metro - it should be running late on Inauguration day
and if I'm correct, your daughter is near the MD border too. Perhaps if we're bored one night we can go to a Hookah Bar?

She's been living at home for the last two and a half and was in Florida for a year before that.

That would be a "thanks, but no thanks" for the hookah bar.

22. I'm in Silver Spring and btw, I never stay in the suburbs when I go to DC
The problem is hotel rooms will be at a premium in DC and normally the hotels charge more during hte week since they get more business travelers during the week.

At this point I'm not to concerned with the hotel space provided that it's near a Metro (about a quartermile) but I will keep looking for a better room.

21. I remember when I attended Ed Rendell's inauguration for PA Governor
Tom Ridge, the prior governor who is also a republican, had all these fancy balls for people who paid big chunks of change to attend.

Rendell opened up the Farm Show Arena and the tickets were $100 per person, something way more affordable than what Ridge was charging. But everyone still got all dressed up and the food was amazing.

The only problem is there is no way Obama can accomadate everyone who wants to attend the party but there will be dozens of parties across the city.

20. Then we'll all meet in DC to protest the hell out of this election
but if you look at the numbers, Kerry and Gore were running practically tied with Bush for both of those elections.

I know, it ain't over til it's over but if McCain pulls this election out the whole world will know it was stolen - not the way that the polls are leaning heavily in Obama's favor.

29. if you look at the numbers
Kerry was in the lead going into the election and he won by an electoral landslide according to the exit polls.

One month before the election he was looking good. On election night he was presumed to win.

i'm just saying let's not count our chickens before they're hatched because if we do, then Obama will also, and THAT is a BIG mistake.

I already think they're not playing it well, with all the fraud that is already taking place, they don't seem to be taking much notice. That's scary.

much cheaper and DOES have a MARC train station. About 30 miles north, I'd guesstimate.

It's a small historic city... back to French & Indian War days... 15 miles from Harper's Ferry and within reach of Antietam (west) and Gettysburg (north)... also Baltimore/Annapolis (east).

I already decided to definitely go to the inauguration, so I'd be up for meeting up somewhere.

Already got the hotel reserved (and yes it was expensive - we're staying in Downtown) and next up is the train tickets (Amtrak of course). We're incredibly psyched and it'll be a nice vacation for him after getting home from Afghanistan. I want him to wear his dress uniform but he doesn't want to... x(

54. Please keep us all posted about the itinerary
I tremendously want to be at the event, but knowing DC as I do, it will be a mob scene. So my plan is to try to see this historic event, but to make no set plan as to an itinerary because of the need to improvise on a minute-to-minute basis. I cannot begin to imagine the sheer congestion.

However, if there is the smallest opportunity to stop by a bar where many DU'ers will be, I would love to try to get there. I am 15 miles outside of DC and will metro in. I also plan on the metro being so crowded, even that will be a challenge.

Sam
