Ayers "linked" to McCain GOP supporter South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford
Edited on Wed Oct-08-08 02:23 PM by rainbow4321
So does Sanford now fall into the "palling around" category? Wasn't Sanford rumored to be on McLame's VP list at one point? He is one of McLame's cable newsshow talking heads, I believe.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/08/26/ayers-linked-to-gop-gover_n_121363.html

The campaign season's hottest gotcha game -- six degrees of William Ayers -- has suddenly become a bit more complicated for John McCain and the Republican Party.

It turns out that Ayers, a 60s-era radical and former Weathermen member, is linked to GOP Gov. Mark Sanford through their work for the University of South Carolina.

Since 2005, Ayers has held the title of "distinguished scholar" at USC for participating in an education project. He has attended various university events, been praised highly by school administrators, even published columns on university's website. Meanwhile, Sanford holds the position of Ex-Officio Chairman of USC's Board of Trustees. True, that "link" is basically meaningless; no one suggests that Sanford endorses anything that Ayers has said or done over the years.

(snip)

Does Obama's work with Ayers on this education project really call into question "his judgment and readiness to be commander in chief," as the McCain campaign has charged? If so, maybe McCain needs to take another look at Gov. Sanford.

1. Why didn't Sanford protest the Ayers affiliation? If Ayers is such a
terrible guy for anyone to know, such a threat, then why didn't Sanford organize a trustee meeting or whatever to get Ayers eliminated from any university activity or association?

9. Sanford and the school are backpeddling
Okey dokey...so he has "attended various university events, been praised highly by school administrators, even published columns on university's website" yet the school is now trying to distance themselves from him, as is Sanford.

Barack Obama's campaign is citing the University of South Carolina's speaking invitations to William Ayers and Republican Gov. Mark Sanford's role as school trustee to counter GOP efforts to link the presidential candidate to the 1960s radical.

The governor dismissed the effort as "totally bogus" and said he never heard of Ayers.

"This is a totally bogus story. I've never even heard of the guy" until this weekend, Sanford said Tuesday. "This is a guy I don't know, I've never met."

Ayers has spoken six times over the last 13 years at the University of South Carolina's Museum of Education, but he has "no ongoing connection or relationship with the university," said school spokesman Russ McKinney Jr.

12. Question to McLame and Palin; Is SC now a terrorist state?
Edited on Wed Oct-08-08 04:07 PM by rainbow4321
Do you think South Carolina is a terrorist state since their university has had ties to Ayers? Including having him speak SIX times at different univeristy events?

Just asking....

8. Many conservatives on same boards as Obama and Ayers
Obama and Ayers served together on two boards - one was an Annenberg Foundation affiliate on education in Chicago and the other was the Woods Foundation. I read that there were also noted conservatives on those boards. I'd love if someone could find out their names. I spent a few minutes on google and could not find it. If someone has a premium membership to www.guidestar.org ($1,000 a year), they might find the boardmembers on the old 990 forms they have posted.
