What does it for YOU?

i may not be as 'progressive' as the average DU member, i have confessed that i generally lean slightly right on economics in particular and have mostly voted third party

but there are two issues that really 'hit home' with me that Obama has such focus and clarity on. these issues are not the only reasons i support him...but they are the issues that, when he is speaking of them (like he was last night), it makes me jump up and say "YES!!"

1. Development of Green Technology/Alternative Energy - the whole vision of this country having a 'boom' in this area the way we had the technology boom, oil boom, space travel, or hell, even the industrial revolution! i just believe in that so much. people in this country are BRILLIANT when given the opportunity and education. this is so possible. along with that is the whole focus on sciences and math education. then the ability to EXPORT that technology, the impact of that on our economy, not to mention the climate.

it may be a little bit of an obscure 'pet issue' given some of the things on the table right now, but this really is at the very top of my list...and i was thrilled to hear Obama say it was 'priority 1' on that question.


2. Foreign Relations - and this is the one that keeps me lying awake at night, more so than even than the multitude of domestic issues. it frightens me that we've lost such standing. it frightens me that our military is so strained. it terrifies me that despite all our efforts, our 'enemies'...really...kind of do whatever they want, and we may no longer have 1) the unquestionable support to do what may be right, 2) the vast military options/ability to be able to do what may be needed, and 3) the damn moral HIGH GROUND to do anything.

i hate that feeling of our position in the world being so precarious. Obama's...stature, presence, intelligence AND intellect, reasonableness - these are all the characteristics of his that drew me to him early this year as i started paying attention to the election. Barack Obama puts a smart, strong, respectable face back on MY country.
