Will Palin be able to save herself?
Now, I know very few of us think much of Sarah Palin, but the fact of the matter is that many of the right wing Republicans out there, and some centrist Republicans *ADORE* her, and seriously believe that she's the big up-and-coming star of the party - like I believed Obama was in 2004.

The thing is: I was right.

Now, if Palin wants to remain the newest sweetheart of the Republicans, she's not going to be able to just sink right along with McSame. She's going to have to distance herself from him, or do something else to make it known that it's HIS fault that they lost and not hers. As the writing on the wall becomes more clear, she has to be looking for an escape route. She obviously won't leave the ticket, but what can she do to essentially throw McSame under the bus.

My strong guess is she'll do it, so we should be on the watch, which will be a clear indicator that this thing is over.

Poor Republicans, if Palin is the best you can do/hope for, you've got a dismal future.

16. Did you pick up on this comment by Biden today?
"You can't call yourself a maverick when all you've ever been is a sidekick."

I wonder if McPancho has heard that one yet.

4. No.
She believes - nay, knows - beyond a shadow of a doubt that she herself is a savior. And as such, it is those who will not yet pay her due homage who are in need of behavior modification.

6. Is it possible for two people to throw *each other* under the bus?
Palin and McCain will each need to distance themselves from and blame the other. This could get ugly.

9. She has already been distancing herself. She's just helping Pops.
Her cutesy stuff is all about helping Grampy. Doggone it, she's doing her best for that ticket.
Doggone it, she's a trooper. (Whoops, better not say trooper.) She's a team player. What a gal !

She gave it her all, by golly.

She's still primed to remain a Republican star.

And after her reality show, Governor Barracuda, premiers on E! on January 18th, well, she'll be everyone's little star.

11. She's going to fulfill her destiny of becoming the Dan Quayle of our new century.
She doesn't have the game or the connections to come back after this, and the GOP hates losers. She not smart enough, wealthy enough or well connected enough to survive careerwise. It's back to the dog pound for this pit bull, I'm afraid. You know what the system does to dogs who bite.

12. She'll be damaged goods if they lose
First, in light of her losing support from moderates and independents over the last few weeks the party will see her someone who can't draw support past the base and it's unlikely she'll be drafted as a running mate in the future.

Second, her image has been tarnished by the press interviews and various scandals and there's a chance she could be recalled or impeached as governor depending on other developments. Even if she escapes that ordeal and wants to run in 2012 she'll find more than enough people who will run against her in the primaries and I'm sure they'll be glad to pile on the dirt.

13. After she loses this election she'll no longer have the benefit of McCain's handlers.
She'll be going on her own instincts, and I suspect she'll go to the extreme, and go right over the cliff. We'll get to watch her self-destruct.

14. She'll have to distance herself from
her husband. The AIP thing isn't going away. We'll have 4 years to hammer that home. It won't be difficult, because it is crystal clear, perfectly provable, and it's deviant, unpatriotic behaviour.

I hope she comes out of this mostly in tact so that she and Romney have to slug it out to run against Obama in 2012.

18. Nope. You are wrong wrong WRONG on this
She's been nothing but a laughing stock to all but the 28%ers. No one else takes her seriously, 'by golly'.

Her career will be over when her one term as Governor ends, if not sooner.

22. I know what you're saying is true, but that doesn't mean, IMO, she's finished
To this day my Republican co-workers (in California) think she's the "rising star".

Pat Buchanon daily says "let Sarah be Sarah!"

Look to Freepland who are constantly coming up with scenarios in which McSame bows out and she takes over the ticket and leads them to glory.

They think she's gold. Solid gold. Granted that's the 28%, but that's who George Jr. won with, and that's the Republican base and what determines who runs for them. Look at the possible field we had in 2008: McSame was the MOST reasonable (apart from Ron Paul), all of the others were rabid foamers. That's who they dish up.

Now I agree that she's actually worthless, and maybe she will get jettisoned immediately upon losing, but I seriously doubt she thinks so. I think she believes she's the best chance Republicans have. It's rediculous, but I'd be very shocked if it weren't true. So *she* will be looking for an out. A way to politically survive this Epic Fail.

I hope you're right, though! How many of those 28% live in Alaska, though...

21. I hope she does, but fear she can't.

I think a politically viable Sarah Palin will doom the Republican party to fracture into two groups. Fiscal Conservatives have been getting increasingly unhappy with the control of the Religious Right as it is. Sarah Palin is the Religious Right's Politcal Messiah. If she takes control of the Republican Party, you'll see the fiscal conservatives begin to bail.

Unfortunately, I think this election will end her 15 minutes of fame. The GOP plays to win and Sarah was supposed to get Women to vote for the ticket. Women are going to vote for Obama in greater numbers than they typically do for the democratic ticket. Ergo, women are rejecting Sarah Palin. She will be seen as useless and tossed aside, if she can't somehow gain power within the party herself.

I don't think she can...but I'd love it if she did.
