calling healthcare a "responsibility"
What does that mean exactly? Of course, McCain's answer was incoherent, but my husband and I were asking that question last night while we were watching.

Is is responsibility as in personal responsibility, that we have to take responsibility for our health insurance in that some of it needs to be paid for by us, in that we need to take responsibility for our health and not leave it up to the government.

I understand right, and I understand privilege, but it's not clear in my mind what Brokaw meant by responsibility, and certainly McCain's answer didn't illuminate things, quite the opposite.

1. McCain will tax health benefits as income
Our receptionist just got word that two family members, long time republicans, are not voting for McCain based on this issue.

5. Nice...
I'm glad people are voting based on real issues, and not the silly distractions the GOP always trots out to avoid talking about their shockingly poor policy positions.

2. I take it as it's everyone for themselves.
We're all on our own. Funny how personal responsibility doesn't extend to big business in this country.

6. Exactly! It's like my dad said.
"John McCain wants to give me 5K for health care. Great! One problem--I PAY NEARLY 20K FOR HEALTH CARE."

7. Sure it's a responsibility - but whose responsibility is it?
Is it the responsibility of the unemployed teenage mom? The responsibility of her 13 month old kid?

Somebody who works with words, the way Brokaw does, should know better than to come up with crap like that.
