Man, Axelrod really stunk up the airwaves on NPR this morning
Edited on Wed Oct-08-08 09:05 AM by Richardo
God he was bad - stammering, shallow, trying to recite a stump speech in response to every question, just horrible. Did not do Obama any good at all. x(

On edit: This is not a panic post, I'm just surprised he's SO unpolished after all this time...

9. hmmmm...I didn't hear it, but in his defense, maybe he was just really tired
 Who knows?

In the few times I've seen him on TV, I've been really impressed. The guy knows his stuff.

Oh well, nobody's perfect.

:hi: Richardo!

5. His public persona is not very good.
Apparently he's better off-camera, but I've always had a problem with Alelrod's unsteadiness and uneasiness on tv. They could have used a Begala-type to move the message a lot better, IMHO.

10. Does David Plouffe ever do interviews?
Plouffe IS the campaign manager, after all.

Just curious.

20. Sorry for the snark.. Axelrod may not be the most articulate person in the world, but I tell you
Edited on Wed Oct-08-08 10:22 AM by IsItJustMe
thing you can take to the bank, the man knows his politics and knows how to get black folks elected into office. He did it in Chicago and he is brilliant in that respect.

So I guess it is a matter of what you want to concentrate on.

17. WTF?? Richardo offered an opinion.
I've seen Axelrod in interviews and yes, he doesn't exactly come off polished in interviews.

Richardo just made one opinion. He wasn't ragging on the campaign.

Maybe you should think before you post next time. Just a helpful suggestion.

23. Axlerod not effective?
Edited on Wed Oct-08-08 10:15 AM by stanwyck
Could not disagree with you more. I'll allow that he doesn't always come across well on television or radio. But the man is a tactical genius. If you don't believe me, ask the Clintons about Axlerod.
He's been amazingly intelligent throughout Obama's long journey. A year ago, on the "Here Come the Dems" magazine covers, Obama wasn't even pictured. It was Biden, Dodd, Clinton, and Edwards. Obama was, literally, not in the picture. A year later, he's taken the party's nomination and is headed towards a presidential win.
And you don't think Axlerod is effective?
Crazy talk.

30. He is ineffective as a spokesman. Go back and check the OP.
I'm sure he's not the only one running the campaign behind the scenes, but the people that are I commend.

18. Cue the freakish overreaction to perceived "unfair" criticism...
Likely from those who haven't heard the interview in question.

I swear, DU sometimes treats this forum like such a powerhouse of political influence that every thread of mild dissent must be crushed and derided with the strongest dismissive rhetoric.

It's understandable that people are hypersensitive as the emotional stakes these days are so high, but I wish people would remember this is a private discussion board for progressives--presumably long-time members aren't seeking to unfairly and surreptitiously undermine Obama.

27. He was probably up late last night spinning like a twister.
That takes a toll. Still, if he can't put out Obama's polished image every second he is in front of the media, then he needs to not be in the front and take some time to rest while others perform that function.

28. Axelrod does better as the man behind the curtain. Don't know why he's doing interviews.
He's the guy that crafts the messages and writes the speeches and talking points. Gibbs does a much better job.
