"Honestly, What Are McCain's chances?" Freerepublic.com responds.
Edited on Wed Oct-08-08 08:59 AM by mwb970
The word for the day is "demoralized". Here are a few selected responses from this Freeper thread on McLame's chances:

Slim. And as good as Palin is, even she can’t save Johnny Mac from himself.

McLame is our current Bob Droll.

His ONLY chances of winning depend on how many of us are gonna vote for Sarah Palin. That’s the bottom line.

Short of a Clinton ambush I think Obama takes it. And you Kool-aid drinkers need to wake up to the fact that McCain was no one around here's first choice, he inspires no confidence in people and his whole campaign context is that Obama sucks (which is true) instead of how he will lead.

The country is tired of Bush and too many people want to run towards something that makes them feel good. Just wait til they find out what they bought ....

Does he figure he has us in the bag and he is trying to get the mushy middle or is he and his staff that out of touch?

Equal portions of both.

Chance of McCain winning - slim.

Chance of McCain returning to the Senate with full pay/benefits, welcomed back into the media's confidence, and continuing his Leftist lean - pretty darn good.

Chance of Sarah Palin returning to Alaska as damaged goods, never to be seen on the national stage again - see above.

Not good. McCain stumbled while Obama was smooth. Obama said the right things, even though he lied his arse off. McCain pointed out his ties to Fannie and Freddie but didn’t stick with it. Not that it mattered. The Obama bots couldn’t care less.

There could be video evidence of Obama snorting coke, (Marion Barry?), and he would still be elected.

America has become a stupid, socialist place. The days of American exceptionalism are rapidly drawing to a close.

McLame is our current Bob Droll.

McCain built up his supporters to believe he was finally "taking off the gloves" .....

when in reality he merely put on a big wad of cottonball, and shoved his mitts into his pants pockets like a shy schoolboy.

Because whatever the strategy was going into the debate last night, it fell flatter than a balloon underneath Michael Moore's butt.

If McCain can't get excited and motivated at the thought of Obama turning America into another cog in the coming multi-cultural Muslim caliphate.... then how the hell does he expect anyone else to??

7. They'll never acknowledge it
besides, Rush Limpballs never had it so good as during the Clinton Presidency. I'm certain he'll mine the Obama Administration for the same purposes.

12. Dream on. They bitched the whole 8 years of Clinton's presidency, remember?
The Dow went from 3000 to 11,000 in his 8 year term. Under Bush it's gone from 10,500 to 9,500. And they STILL claim the economy is better under Bush than Clinton.

They are the ultimate lemmings. They believe anything, no matter how absurd, that supports their beliefs, and believe nothing, no matter how obviously true, if it goes against their beliefs. They believe cutting taxes increases tax revenue, despite the obvious fact that deficits skyrocketed under Shrub and Reagan. They believe government regulation is the problem, despite the fact that every attempt at deregulation has failed (electricity-Enron, food safety-salmonella& e coli, banking-the S&L crisis and the new bank crisis). They believe privitization always saves money, despite the fact that no insurance company can compete cost-wise with Medicare and the fact the KBR charges double or more what it cost the army to do it's own soldier's to provide food and laundry services.

They are hopeless cases, and the only time any of them ever change their minds is when one of them loses their job and is faced with the reality of a crap job market, sky-high health insurance premiums, and fiscal reality slaps them in the face. When they have to face the reality that they may have to spend their life savings and sell their house in order to pay for medical care, then they suddenly have a liberal rebirth.

8. They'll focus on Palin
They will convince themselves that they only "settled" for McLame. I saw things over there in the pre-Palin era, what we're seeing today is the way they were feeling about six weeks ago. They had already thrown in the towel, and if Lieberman had been selected as VP, they would have already packed up their tents.

They would have spent the next two to four years trying to figure out who the true conservative leader was going to be, but they've had one appointed for them. They won't saddle her with his loss.

10. It is true, however, that McCain was nobody's first choice
However, Romney, Giuliani, Huckabee, Thompson, etc all sucked even more than he did, and he was what was left for the Republics at the end of the day.

11. The R's had a spectacularly bad field to choose from this time.
Edited on Wed Oct-08-08 09:18 AM by mwb970
Every single prospect had at least one deep, egregious flaw. They decided McCain's were the least deep and the least egregious, but now many of them wish they'd tried Door Number 3 instead.

By comparison, any of the Dems (except maybe Gravel) would have been a fine candidate. My personal trajectory was Richardson-Biden-Obama, but any of them would have been better than any of the R's.

16. I'll never forget the poster a rightie colleague had up outside her office in '92.
It showed a roadside sign in the middle of nowhere pointing to two towns in opposite directions. One was "Clinton" and the other was "Prosperity". Hahahahaha! Get it? If we elect Clinton, the country faces financial ruin and (many Republicans said) another Great Depression.

Gosh, that's not how I remember what ultimately happened! Now we are facing financial ruin and another Great Depression, but it doesn't seem to have anything to do with Bill Clinton.

What more does he need? He'll win by 1.3%. Hope I'm wrong.
