something funny about CNN's "live debate meter". off the chart for Obama, but hand poll different.
After watching the roomfull of people who dialled the knobs to a Obama slam dunk, Sosobad O'Brien asked for a show of hands - 14 McCain, 11 Obama. Made me wonder if we saw a possible example of the "R" word in action - in secret, people love Obama - they love what he says, the hate how McCain says it as well as what he says. But when asked, it is just hard for them to raise that hand for Obama. Then again, O'Brien did a shit awful job in the very brief segment.

This is the ONE thing that has me really, really worried - I would love to see a 10 point lead going in to Nov 4 to just be sure.

1. it was the other way
Obama got more undecideds than McCain.

On another note - as a general rule most of the undecided, independent voters tend to be more republican than democrats and that for one reason or another are not comfortable coming out as republicans.

2. Not to mention that IMHO those
dial meters don't tell anyone anything important. It's another example, this time in microcosm, of our contextless news. To rate, minute by minute, what you think of what the candidate is saying at that moment in time, ignores what came before, and can't possibly take into account what comes afterwards. Yet another serving of short attention span theater.

Before he gave his analysis, he railed hard on those dumb dial meters.

I laughed my ass off

4. Excellent point
Yes, you are exactly correct. Just another in a string of "stupid benchmarking tricks" for a culture that wants to see every desire vivisected and transformed into marketing data. A cheap gimmick, and ultimately useful only for the deeply stupid.

5. Soledad sucks.
And honestly, listening to their comments, that, quite possibly, could have been the dumbest group of people ever assembled in America outside of a Bush cabinet meeting.

8. Hand poll was NOT about debate points BUT presidential PREFERENCE -- "if you had to vote NOW"
We cannot underestimate the "comfort" " experience" or what is probably a "not white like me" factor in the vote, regardless of what people say about competence.
