16. Here's what I did with my right wing mother in '04.

I called her on the phone & asked for a cease & desist on all stuff political. She agreed. The next week she bombed my email box with the most inane & hateful, bullshit crap you can imagine. At the time I had dialup & I was PISSED! So, without telling her, I created a rule in Outlook to send anything from her address to the trash.

About six weeks later I got a phone call from my mom. (She never called me!) She said, "So are you just going to leave me hanging on that invitation?" "What invitation?" I asked, genuinely perplexed. "The one I sent you!" I immediately started mentally going through my emails, when suddenly I remembered what I had done. Without thinking, I laughed out loud. She asked me what I was laughing about, so I told her what I had done. She was indignant, saying, "What if I had really needed you?" I reminded her that my rule to all of my family & friends is, call my land line if it's an emergency. Which is eventually what she did. It wasn't an emergency, but she ended up calling me, like she knew to do if she wanted an immediate response.

Those that sent me emails in '04 have either wised up, are ashamed of W or they got tired of me sending them back the FACTS, or they have discovered Google and/or Snopes on their own. I had braced myself and was determined that if it happened again I would tell them to leave me off their email list, but I haven't had to do it.

One of my business partners, a staunch Hillary supporter had me a bit worried, but now she is totally behind Obama and she is a big emailer. When Hillary lost I comforted her and made sure she watched her convention speech as I was confident Hillary would hit it out of the park. Once they distrust the mainstream media and decide to believe dubious sources, there is little or nothing that you can say to break through. I imagine even meeting Obama in person and spending the day with him would not convince them, once they believe he's nothing but a liar and a fraud.

I have been dealing with the same thing with my dad. The terrible emails have stopped finally, and I don't respond to any emails inspired by the latest hateful and fearful mongering he hears from tv or radio--mainly radio. There seem to be no standards governing what you say on the radio.
