Michelle Obama meets with NC military families
From NBC17 & AP
JACKSONVILLE, N.C. - Addressing a packed house in Jacksonville, Michelle Obama talked about the sacrifices military families have to make.

She also talked about the economy and the hardships military families as well as other families face.

“On Nov. 4 we have a choice to make,” she said.

Michelle Obama said there is only one candidate who has a record of strong support for mental healthcare, is a consistent supporter of the 21st century G.I. Bill and puts the middle class at the heart of his economic plan.

Michelle encouraged the crowd to vote early. She also reminded them that the last day to register to vote in Oct. 10.

For the past 20 months Michelle has been meeting with military families. Today she thanked troops from the Onslow County area.

The campaign event comes the same day as Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin speaks at East Carolina University in Greenville.

As people waited for her to take the stage, they talked about why they support the Obama/Biden ticket.

Marty Holland said this is the first time she is excited about politics.

“I do consider McCain/Palin to be more of the same and I think that I’m not real happy with the way things are right now, and so we’re ready for a change,” said Holland.

And many at the event in Jacksonville, said they came because they are looking for change.

“I think that a change will be wonderful for the area, for the state for the entire nation, I think because he’s young, he’ll reach a lot of people,” said Dardi Mitchell, an Obama supporter.
