So it's been a few days since the VP debates. I have watched the debates several times and one thing keeps replaying in my mind, that statement by Joe, "past is Prologue, Gwen".
I think above all else this was the best thing said at the Debate IMO The past is First.
McCain/Palin wants us to look at Obama's past and decide based on his past he shouldn't be President. However, they want us to ignore McCain's past and decide he should be president. But, if what Biden says is true, we must examine the past of all the candidates, because it's the first thing we have to determine who will be a good leader. That's the whole point of "experience"
The fact is when you review the past, the first of McCain, vs Obama, it's clear the only true leader is Obama.
McCain had a life of privilege that he took full advantage of, in the negative sense of the word advantage.
Whereas Obama had a life of sacrifice that he also tool full advantage of, in the positive since of the word.
Obama took his education seriously from the very beginning of his education, he was taught the education would carry him through. He learned to be compassionate, and care for someone other than himself. He lived a life patterned after the scripture, "whatever you do to the least of my brothers you do to me" even if you are not a believer in the word of God, personalize that statement and it changes you. "What ever you do to the least of my brothers, you do to Heather"
In contrast, McCain's life was filled with abundance, he never had to want for anything except perhaps his desire to be famous, and exceed his father and grandfather. But he didn't want to put in the hard work that his parents did to achieve it. He wanted to ride on the coat tails of those that came before him, and hopefully reap the rewards. Before he was a POW it's well documented he was a screw up, who was allowed to remain mediocre. As a POW he told them right away who he was so yes prison was tough, but he still managed to be given special treatment because of his name. When he was released, it didn't take long for him to return to his old ways, partying and womanizing.
His Past, his First, does not give evidence to a developing leader, it does show proof of an erratic person who only cares about protecting what he finds most important, himself.
So now McCain wants America to look into Obama's past, Obama's first, and see something evil, something wrong with him. But McCain doesn't know, one of the most basic principles of life. When ever you point the finger of blame, you always have three fingers, pointing you your shame.
Joe is right, "Past is Prologue, Gwen. We know that."
