WITH Susan Eisenhower, grand-daughter of Repub. prez. Dwight Eisenhower.

RICHMOND, Va. — The wife of Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel plans to endorse Democrat Barack Obama.

Lilibet Hagel has scheduled a 10 a.m. news conference in Alexandria, Va., on Tuesday with Susan Eisenhower, the granddaughter of Republican President Eisenhower. Susan Eisenhower also is an Obama supporter.

Hagel, R-Neb., has made no endorsement. Lilibet Hagel said in an Associated Press interview that her decision was independent of her husband. She said she didn't know whether he would make an endorsement or whom he would support.

"You'd have to ask him," Lilibet Hagel said.

She said it will be her first endorsement of a Democrat and that perilous world conditions were a factor.

1. Well, well, well.
I wouldn't be a bit surprised at this point if her husband were to endorse Obama.

3. Ahh.. so much news outta my Red Husker State of Nebraska this week!
Who knows.. this might be just a little more nudge to get Omaha to vote for Obama.. giving him that one electoral vote he wants so badly!

If Hagel came out, well that would be awesome as well. It's like we swapped Lieberman for Hagel.. whateveah. :)

4. What's Chuck Hagel going to get up to after his term is over?
Just curious.
I'd like to see him continue to serve his country in some way.

8. Whatever cabinet post Obama wants to give him..
I'm sure he'll take. ;)

Obama says he wants both parties in his cabinet.. i can't see Hagel not getting something. That's my guess anyway.. because he hasn't exactly laid out his next career move after the election.

9. I think he would love that, after complaining about the White House for so long. Fingers crossed.

5. You know her husband wants to endorse Obama.
Only politics and/or political repercussions is preventing him from doing so.

7. I'm with you on this. My hubby and I both think that's what is going on.
This is cool though. :) I like Chuck Hagel. I wrote some letters after some of the dumb ass moves that got made early in the war and Hagel was the only Republican that responded to me in a real letter, not a canned "I support the President no matter what" form letter. The dude is decent.

10. Yup.. i'm in Omaha, and although
I don't agree on any of his social issues stances (gay rights, abortion, etc.) he does have a mind of his own.. and doesn't follow the sheep mentality of just doing what the party wants him to do.

Of course.. that's exactly why we all hate Liberman.. but oh well. Hagel doesn't flip/flop for political advantages.. he does what he thinks, and he doesn't care if people agree or disagree with him.

I also think Obama is going to put him in his cabinet.. and I wouldn't be surprised to see Hagel endorse Obama himself soon. With the political winds shifting.. Hagel has to know that the Republicans are about to be out of power.. Obama wants him in his cabinet anyway - and Obama just opened 2 field offices in Omaha to try and get 1 electoral vote. A Hagel endorsement can only help that. ;)
