**Important:** About the call to kill obama at the Palin rally ( demand answers )
Edited on Mon Oct-06-08 02:19 PM by Essene
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/10/06/in_fla_palin_goes_for_the_roug.html

Is there audio/video of this event?

1. Was the man removed from the event? If not, why not?

2. Was the secret service notified? If not, why not?

How can we demand that these questions get answered? Folks at a Mccain/Palin rally are openly calling to KILL the other candidate? This is not a small matter and nor am i trying to suggest Palin "incited" this, either. However, the guy clearly IS inciting violence and there needs to be some explanation.

Has anybody besides the Washington Post covered this?

This is truly, truly, truly... disturbing and is not something we or anybody... oughta turn into a partisan matter.

2. She did incite it! When you start rambling on to an already group
of nut cases that basically Obama is a terrorist that seeks to destroy the U.S. with his buddies...she put out the call to harm him! This is total bullshit.

6. I'm extremely disturbed by this.
Mainly because Palin is not going to stop her lying, hateful, race-tinged rhetoric. In post 9/11 America, people know better than to recklessly associate the word 'terrorist' to a person of color. In doing this, you are no less inciting a group of people to take vigilante actions against that person. Jesus, and she did it in the deep South. Karma needs to school this harpy.

It's the group of people who like her, no matter where they live!

Please, do you think there are no racists in Boston?

33. I'm from the South...
...and while I'll agree with you that racism is everywhere, people are more open about it in Dixie. It's just one of those givens, like the pick-up truck with the gun rack, the rebel flag, the dip can imprint on the back jeans pocket, the cowboy boots, the hats, the incredibly oversized belt buckles, and the proud ignorance on display. Racism is more overt in the South and the inbred white trash is more likely to get away with it there. That's why I left that fucking hole.

I live in Alabama and I cannot imagine that New York, either the boroughs or upstate, is more racist than the backwater denizens I live among.

11. much ado about.... not very much
and someone posted the transcript- I believe in FC's thread about the incident. It sounded like the yahoo was talking about Ayers, not Obama. Not that that makes his outburst OK. But this isn't going anywhere and it's just a distraction. If Obama's campaign is worried about this, they'll take care of it.

38. Compton is a predominantly black neighborhood.
I agree- drop him off & let him explain to a neighborhood of hard working Americans who are barely eeking by why he is shouting "Kill Him" about the candidate who wants to help!

41. In that case,
he could be dropped almost anywhere in this country. There are many suburban neighborhoods with hard working Americans barely getting by with little or no health insurance, who are losing their jobs and their homes. I'm sure many of them would want a piece of the "Kill Him" guy.

17. Palin's Secret Service Detail
Although they are assigned to protect her, it seems to me to be within their responsibilities to act on behalf of another individual under Secret Service protection if needed. Shouldn't Palin's Secret Service agents have been all over this guy?

Their job is to protect her, not to deal with other things going on in the crowd that do not threaten her safety.

Shoe on the other foot . . . suppose at an Obama rally, someone in the crowd starts loudly threatening McCain. It would be a gross dereliction of duty for Obama's agents to stop protecting him to go after the person in the crowd. One of the first things these agents learn is how to stay focused on their protectee and not get distracted by other activity, which could, after all, be a diversion designed to draw them away from their post and leave their protectee vulnerable.

There are other agents whose job it is to deal with threats to another candidate. But Palin's agents did the right thing by not going after him.

27. You have a point
I did think there would be enough agents there that SOMEONE could have done something, but it wouldn't be good for them to ease their protection of her in order to protect someone else.

Edited on Mon Oct-06-08 10:36 PM by nc4bo
to a federal agency that handles domestic terrorism on U.S. soil.

I'm serious here. It's one thing to have people act like animals and you are not aware of it but when you are witness to someone in your audience uttering threats of death and killing, then not only are they making terroristic threats but you are just as guilty by not 1) stopping the activity, 2) immediately alerting authorities of the threat 3) demanding that law enforcement or other SS take control of the situation immediately.

Isn't this what Homeland Security is for? What about the FBI or Secret Service? Why isn't Homeland Security made aware that Sen. Mccain and Gov. Palin are promoting hate crimes and domestic terror threats against a Presidential candidate? This is the 2nd time it's happened with no signs of stopping according to the Mccain campaign.

30. Rachel Maddow covered this with a video clip.
Edited on Tue Oct-07-08 12:29 AM by cui bono
I was puttering around while it was on so I wasn't paying full attention but I did hear her say that it was unclear whether he meant Ayers or Obama. I'm sure someone will post the clip.

Also, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz was saying they only send her to the far right areas, the areas where they know she will get a good reception. So at least it's not a group of moderates, it's the wingnut crowd, not that that makes it any better but a little less shocking perhaps?
(to clarify, DWS was not speaking about this incident, just about Palin in general and referring to the areas of FL that they were sending her to, but I'm sure it's the same thing whatever state she's in.

Report to the SS and move on like Obama does ...

Choose to play political "Jujitsu" NOT whip ourselves up with fear and loathing of "a cage match."

Use THEIR HATE to push back negative on them ... let them "hoist themselves on their own petards."
