My Obama yard sign was stolen last night!!!
Along with the rest in my neighborhood. I don't live in the country, I live in freakin' ABINGTON, PA!!! Where Obama had a rally last Friday!!!

Now I'm really upset because those signs are kinda hard to come by! I did call the Abington Township Police station and reported it - they offered to send a cop to get a formal statement, and I declined because I'm sure they have better things to do than just run around looking for yard sign thieves.

I'm thinking of making my own sign: "MY OBAMA SIGN WAS STOLEN - BUT NOT MY VOTE"

5. I like your new sign idea.
My sign thief seems to have given up for now.

In other news, my kid volunteered at the local Obama office this weekend (Nashua NH) and there were over 100 people out canvassing from that office on Sunday. That is a huge number for us.

Plus the yard signs are starting to blossom and they are blossoming Obama/Biden.

6. They've all been stolen in our neighborhood too
There are nothing but McCain signs in my blue neighborhood. They may have the signs, but they don't have the votes to win Orange county!

21. There's a lot of McCain signs in my neignherbor too
Our city went 58% Kerry so I assumed I would see more Obama. I don't think it's because of stealing (or I hope not). I guess the McCain people know it's not looking good. They're really trying to push for him by putting out a lot of sign and stealing Obama signs, as well.

7. Somebody put up McCain/Palin signs on every goddamn piece of public property in Arlington, VA
Edited on Mon Oct-06-08 09:01 AM by YOY
It almost makes up for their rampant lack of yard signs. They're outnumbered 5 to 1 in my 'hood.

Nobody has touched mine. My yard is too small and the windows are open.

I can count the McCain signs in my neighborhood: 5 including my fundie neighbors and one guy on Route 50 with a freaking McCain banner.

There are about 25 Obama signs.

I'm tempted to replant the one in front of the (half empty as three business there are no more...irony much?) shopping center to the Exxon station across the way.

I don't know what is more fitting: for it to be in front of a deserted storefront or in front of a gas station.

11. But this is a neighborhood where you can leave your doors open!
And leave valuable stuff in your driveway and no one would touch them! I have left electric hedge trimmer and leaf blower, etc. on my front porch when I'm too lazy to take them to the garage, sometimes for days, and they remain untouched (actually, they're still there).

But a fucking yard sign???

17. Mine's getting bad regarding thefts...that's city living.
But nobody has touched the yard signs.

Just how big are yards in your 'hood? We're small yards and a semi-tightly knit but diverse community.

12. Is this a concerted effort by the McCain camp?
Never, ever have I heard about so many Democratic campaign signs being stolen.

We hear about this on an almost-daily basis.

I know that signs are stolen every Presidential campaign, but this is like an
epidemic.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was part of the McCain camp strategy. It's
so rampant...it has to be some kind of concerted effort.

Charges were pressed. If you have time, I would go and file the statement.

19. I really think that someone needs to find out...
...if these kids were told to do this, by someone--of if they're just
doing it on their own.

What young kids care that much about campaign signs?

All of this sign stealing is so pervasive. The pervasiveness
of this on a national level, cannot be coincidental. I've never
heard of so many campaign signs being stolen. It happens, but not
in the epidemic proportions that we've been hearing about.

I hope someone really presses these kids and finds out the truth.

14. Drove through Montgomery County Friday
Big Yard sign competitions going on.

If anyone steals my sign its being replaced with a new sign and a sign that says this household supports and participates in the 2nd amendment.

I refuse to take it out because of fear. I love your idea of making your own sign!! Anyone who has had their sign stolen should do this. It is a fantastic idea!!

18. Sign thieves
Call me silly but I suspect Rethugs.

It is not easy to get signs where I am so I have a spare in the house in case of thieves. This went on with Kerry signs, I recall. Ideas people came up with to combat it, was to put the signs up on a high post or tree, motion lights, surveillance cameras, motion sensors with sounds, take signs in at night.
I like your sign idea, Blue.

Maybe Vaseline laced with hot-pepper juice?

That's the concoction Becky Armstrong of Upper Arlington is thinking of spreading on her Barack Obama campaign sign now that thieves have stolen five others from her yard.

Sometime after dark on Thursday, her sign and 13 others disappeared from Mountview Road. It's the second time such signs have been swiped en masse from the street.

Laura Schwartz, who distributes signs for Democratic Upper Arlington Progressive Action, said that more than 100 Obama-for-president signs have been stolen in the city. She's encouraging people to take their signs in at night and report stolen signs on the group's Web site.
