My 13 year old grandson just coined a new word ...
He said the word was palinate. I didn't get it so he told me to ask him a question. So I asked him "How are you doing in school?" He answered ... "I would like to tell you about my World of Warcraft addiction." I still didn't get it lol.

He looked at me like I was dumber than dumb and said ... PALINATE Grandma ... It's when you give an answer to a question that has nothing to do with the question ... like Sarah Palin does.

So I've been PALINIZED!

15. Why wouldn't they? It's we grown-ups who
expect that politician nominated to run for public office should pass at least a minimum standard of honesty and integrity. Otherwise how did they get there? We are the ones shocked and offended by it. For teenagers used to bloviating "do as I say" grownups, its nothing new, I imagine.

Umm.. please don't say vote often.

I know you are joking, but the rethugs are trying to convince people we are registering dead people to vote and the felon bit is biting us in the butt although rethugs probably have more of them than we do anyway.

35. The Rethugs are also trying to convince
people that those in foreclosure can't vote. They want to hide the fact that voters in precincts nationwide have been subject to "incorrect purging" of voter rolls. In most cases of these mistaken purges, the purged voter never receives any notice of the "mistake", waits in line at the polls, and is turned away at the moment of truth. How about their efforts to push voter ID initiatives which would effectively screw hundreds of thousands of voters, mostly poor and disenfranchised.

The Rethugs also want to dodge the fact that the core beliefs of their conservative philosophy are the undeniable roots of our Wall Street crisis, our disastrous foreign policy, and the steady erosion of our rights and liberties.

But then, there is what the Rethugs say, and there's what is real.

The phrase "vote early, vote often" was most likely coined by Tim Sullivan, a crook from the corrupt Tammany Hall government in early 1900s New York. It's part of the political history that I hope this smart kid will one day read!

Edited on Sun Oct-05-08 06:29 PM by tclambert
in a speech in the House of Representatives by William Porcher Miles. And he said he saw it "on a banner in one of our northern cities." I looked it up in a book. Yes, they still make those.

103. By definition, is it because YOU DO NOT KNOW the answer? And want to hide your ignorance?
These factors should be part of the definition, IMO. Otherwise you are just "dodging" the question.

Here is the definition I would propose:

PALINATE, verb. nov. to answer a question by saying nothing related to the question while intending to obfuscate ignorance of the answer ... like Sarah Palin does.

66. I take objection to that
Its not an awful game. Its in fact a very good game. Personally I take objection to some of their game mechanics, but the quality of the game can't be denied.

In terms of addiction it is no different than so many other things. If it affects a kid adversely, be it socially or education wise, the fault lies with the parents. And adults must take responsibiliy for the way they use their time.

There is no additives added that makes your body crave it physically. What games deliver is escape - but also a place for social interaction and cooperation.

In this case we have a kid that seems to know he plays a lot more than his parents would like. But what we might also have, is a kid that has been tuned to reacting to what people say or write. And not the way they look. That forces you to rely on bullshit detecting language, without physical reference.

Ok, that might also be overanalyzing it, but my point is, that a kneejerk reaction like this, sounds a little too much like "all those young people, with their long hair and loud noisy music".

The people that let it destroy other parts of their lives, would probably have found another avenue for it, had it not been around.

There is nothing evil or awful about it.

93. I will, thanks
Let me be clear: I play WoW maybe 2-3 times a week. With my boss, no less.
I have played it more on occasions - and other MMORPGs out there. Has it in periods taken up a lot of my time that could have been spent "wiser"? Perhaps. But so has a lot of other things. This forum for one.

But saying its an awful game because someone cannot control the time they spend on it, is like saying a hammer is an awful tool, because someone gets hit over the head with one once in a while.

And WoW is no different than a ton of other games out there. Except for production quality - and as a consequence the size of the community. And its the latter that probably fuels large part of the attraction. I find it hard to call that awful.

Derivative of a tactic used by a candidate for Vice President running as a Republican with candidate for President, (John McCain), in the U.S. 2008 Election for the Presidency. The candidate, Sarah Palin (phonetic), was known for choosing not to answer the question asked by the debate moderator or interviewer and switching to a political position statement on other issues, often repeating comments already made on the issue.

That is completly cool. What a great word-- during an arguement "Stop palinizing" Grading a paper "The structure is basicly sound, but you have a tendency to palinize, please rewrite sections I've outlined in red"

I see an Websters entry in the future for your grandson

75. New dictionary entry
Palinate-\ˈpāl-ən-āt\ verb. meaning:
a. To avoid answering an unwanted question by answering a different question than the one asked.
b. To answer a question by crinkling up ones nose, winking and answering with cute rhetorical stories of ones home.

Feel free to add your own definitions!

definition: to feign being knowledgeable in one subject by changing it to another subject that you consider yourself to be an "expert" in regardless of how untrue that is.

88. PALINNILAP... MY WORD FOR HER PALIN-DRONE ya-bitch-ya....BUT HERE IS THE ISSUE---->
McCain/Palin have made themselves the laughingstock of the nation... might as well have them telling "You can tell you're a redneck..." jokes. The APPEAL of McCain is gone, MAVERICKS don't 'herd' together... there is no WE ARE MAVERICKS... you might as well quote the dialogue from the movie AIRHEADS, "We are the Lone Rangers." The old, and getting sickly, candidate has lost his footing. He is NOT seen publicly, when interviewed he shows many of the signs of brain deteriation (once again following in DUBYA's footsteps). The APPEAL of Palin, both of them, are tucked away in her blouse. The FAKE folksie "ya bitch ya" and the winky winky have been shown to be STAGED at best. The TAX RETURNS show that "ms downhome" is worth MILLION$, and that she and the husband that she cheats on BOTH cheat on TAXES. Her vindictive attitude toward coworkers is EVERY WORKING PERSONS' NIGHTMARE, a boss who fires those who disagree with her.
NOW they have decided to "take off the gloves", but the media is ON TO THE TRICK (except FUX news, who is no longer MEDIA, just GOP talking points). They have ANNOUNCED that they plan to get dirty. WHO IS STUPID ENOUGH TO ANNOUNCE THAT? We must not have OBAMA join the PIG in the MUD. We can take that hit for him. HE MUST STAY ABOVE THE FRAY AND FOCUS ON THE ISSUES AND THE SOLUTIONS.
So... in honor of keeping OBAMA out of the MUD...... please allow ME...
+++++HOW MANY ALASKA REPUBLICANS DOES IT TAKE TO SCREW IN A LIGHTBULB ?
... ALASKA REPUBLICANS DON'T SCREW IN LIGHTBULBS, THEY SCREW IN HIGH SCHOOL HOCKY RINK LOCKER ROOMS BECAUSE THEIR MOM DOESN'T BELIEVE IN SEX EDUCATION!!!
+++++WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SARAH PALIN AND A PITBULL ?
...IF YOU HAVE SEX WITH ONE, AND YOUR BALLS ARE STILL ATTACHED, THAT WAS A PITBULL
+++++WHAT IS JOHN MCCAIN'S FAVORITE GAME ?
...IT WAS ROCK ROCK ROCK, UNTIL THEY INVENTED PAPYRUS AND SCISSORS
+++++HOW DOES JOHN MCCAIN KNOW WHAT JESUS WOULD DO ?

"Did you see that interview with Katie Couric? Oh, man. Katie Couric asked Sarah Palin what newspapers she reads, and she could not name a single newspaper that she reads. Which wouldn't be so bad if she didn't have a degree in journalism." --Jay Leno
"Earlier tonight, they held the vice presidential debate. I understand that Sarah Palin has been preparing all week at John McCain's ranch in Arizona. She said looking out at the desert gave her a real feel for the Middle East." --Jay Leno
"According to a recent poll, 61% of people surveyed said they would rather see Sarah Palin in a bikini than Pamela Anderson. Although 99% said they would rather see Pamela Anderson as vice president." --Jay Leno
"Have you been watching Sarah Palin's interviews with Katie Couric? Last night, Palin told Katie Couric right here on the 'CBS Evening News' that she can't name a Supreme Court ruling that she disagrees with. The best she could come up with was the time Judge Judy ruled against the landlord. But Sarah Palin did say she objected to several Paula Abdul rulings on 'American Idol.'" --David Letterman
"Palin did say there is one decision that she disagrees with. And that was the decision to do the interviews with Katie Couric." --David Letterman

"How about that debate earlier tonight, huh? Is it just me, or whenever Sarah Palin was asked a question, there's a long pause. You know, like when you have a foreign correspondent and the satellite delay." --David Letterman

I had clips of the Katie Couric interview with Palin on the TV while he was building his Legos. I didn't think he was paying attention when he looked up and said "God!! She's not answering the question. She's not saying anything!"

I'm so proud!!
