Its become big election news now. The MI GOP will demand he return.

Palin goes in looking like a maverick and the puke fest begins.

Just a thought this AM while I see MI news circulating.

1. Yeah, that's my suspicion
It fits the pattern of Rovian tricks to win the news cycle. However, it will diminish McCain if his campaign reverses itself because of Palin's objections.

25. No. It will look like he went back in because of
"the strength of his support there." I never thought of this angle, but it definitely could be happening.

2. I don't see how it benefits McCain NOW...and first impressions are the most important in elections.
You're overthinking this.

4. I suspect something as well.
Palin goes up, urges the party faithful to open up their pocketbooks....nothing ventured, nothing gained.

5. Perhaps the GOP is overthinking this.
I see what the OP means. The McCain campaign is desperate and will keep throwing those hailmaries.

3. It does sound possible
but I think, if that was their plan, it will backfire. It looks like McCain giving up. It looks bad to voters and could hurt Republican turn out.

6. Nah
Too much work for not enough payoff. They are lacking in funds and volunteers. They need to organize in states they think they can win.

7. I don't think it was a plan to give up and then come back. But I do think he'll take another
run at it. He'll take any hint of momentum and play it up by barnstorming Michigan.

8. How can announcing "I AM A LOSER" help anyone?
I think you are trying to complicate something very simple. He pulled out of Michigan because he needs the money and manpower elsewhere. Some idiot on his staff turned it into a public announcement when it was supposed to have been done quietly, like a midnight move by a defaulting tenant. It was another screwup.

9. The economy has tanked McCain's chances in Michigan
plus he needs those resources to defend other red states like Virginia and Indiana.

10. Well - He Did Say He Suspended His Campaign For The Bailout And Really Didn't......
I had the same thought especially when Palin said she wanted to go into Michigan and didn't seem like she agreed.

12. If it's a ruse, then it's an idiotic ruse...
... in my opinion. Reversing his decision on Michigan would come across as a flip-flop of huge proportions. As others have noted, McCain has in the past couple of weeks cemented his reputation of being hot-headed and impulsive. He demonstrated this with his debate "I'm canceling/I'm coming antics.

18. True.
It would be idiotic, and not just from that standpoint. Palin would appear -- permanently -- as the stronger of the two. Johnny can't have that.

13. After the EPIC FAIL lie of "suspending of the campaign" to work on a bailout, which never occured
this is another attempt at grabbing a news cycle (which once again seemed to work).

Problem is, their team is losing by 6 points and it's the 4th quarter, 2 seconds left on the clock, 4th down, and 31 yards to go. Do they knee down to end the game or do they try for another hail Mary pass and hope they don't get intercepted in the end zone? No time for a field goal in those last seconds because that will not help them win.

14. It would backfire because it would make it seem as if Palin was now calling the shots
McCain would look like a whipped wimp.

blindly guessing where their opponent is and randomly hurling torpedoes with the hope of getting a hit!

527's will continue to run their despicable ads.

Yeah, he 'suspended' his campaign. :sarcasm:

Obama is not that stupid to fall for that bullshit!
